Reid, Childress Gone Fishin’

When we discussed on Monday the possible timetable for the announcement that quarterback Brett Favre will play for the Vikings in 2010, we mentioned that coach Brad Childress will be on vacation from Monday, June 22 until Monday, June 29. What we failed to point out is that he’s going fishing. In Alaska. With the man whose team knocked Childress out of the 2008 playoffs. We realize that the NFL entails many relationships that cross team lines. And we understand that Reid and Childress are long-time colleagues and friends, with Childress serving as Reid’s offensive coordinator before getting his current gig in Minnesota. But why in the heck would Childress, as he prepares to embark on his make-or-break season with the Vikings, spend a week with the guy who arguably kept Childress from getting a contract extension after last season ended? We’re not saying that Childress should be leaving any burning packages on Reid’s front porch. We just don’t think that the week will be as relaxing as it should be for Childress, given that his inability to get beyond the wild-card round in 2008 -- thanks to Reid’s team. Then again, maybe Childress knows he’ll be looking for a new job in 2010.
