Eagles Defensive Coordinator To Take A Leave Of Absence

As Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Johnson continues his battle with cancer, ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio reports that Johnson will be taking a leave of absence. Johnson, who suffers from melanoma, is starting a new round of chemotherapy. He’ll miss the start of the team’s so-called “Organized Team Activities,” which open May 20. “I told him to take care of himself first, and when he’s ready to come back, come back.” coach Andy Reid told Paolantonio on Monday. “I’d like to tell you he’s great, but he’s not. He’s struggling right now. I told him, when you feel like it, come back.” Secondary coach Sean McDermott will replace Johnson, who turns 68 next Tuesday, during his absence. Earlier this month, Johnson said that he does not plan to retire: “It’s part of my life. It keeps me going. I don’t feel any different coaching. I’m coaching the same way.” We wish Coach Johnson the best as he continues his fight.
