Taylor’s One-Year Deal Is Worth $1.1 million

For veteran defensive end Jason Taylor, signing with the Miami Dolphins today meant playing for less money than he could have gotten from the New New England Patriots, according to John Clayton of ESPN.com. Ultimately, the 34-year-old former NFL Defensive Player of the Year and six-time Pro Bowl selection reportedly struck a one-year, $1.1 million deal that also contains an extra $400,000 in incentive clauses. The contract was finalized today. In a statement, Taylor said: “My heart has always been in Miami and so I’m truly excited to call myself a Dolphin once again. I was presented with a number of different opportunities, but in the end the combination of this being the best situation for my family, my love for this community and my tremendous loyalty to a great organization made this an easy decision.” With the Washington Redskins, Taylor was due $8.5 million for this season. However, Taylor was cut this offseason after informing the Redskins that he didn’t want to take part in their offseason training program because he wanted to spend time with his family. Taylor, who has registered 120 1/2 career sacks, reportedly drew interest from over 12 NFL teams. During his lone season in Washington, Taylor was limited to four sacks and 29 tackles due to injuries.
