Greg Ellis Not Looking Over His Shoulder

Despite the somewhat obvious message delivered when the Cowboys drafted two outside linebackers over the weekend, veteran pass rusher Greg Ellis isn’t sweating his future in Dallas. According to Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News, Ellis, who had griped in the past and raised the issue of whether he could be cut or traded when the team added Anthony Spencer a few years ago, isn’t worried about the presence of incoming rookies Victor Butler and Brandon Williams. If the Cowboys cut Ellis, they would save $4.15 million against the salary cap. “Greg is looking forward to playing football and he’s looking forward to playing in the new stadium for the Cowboys,” Ellis’ agent, James Williams, told the Morning News. “It’s outside of our control anyway. But Greg is happy with the Cowboys and wants no controversies.” At this point, it looks like Ellis remains in the Cowboys’ plans. “I know he had that same concern when Spencer came in,” Cowboys team owner Jerry Jones said. “He had that same concern when he moved over [from defensive end to outside linebacker]. And that’s rightfully so. “I think the world of Greg, but anything we do there one way or the other, I don’t want him to read about it. I want to sit down and talk to him about it.”
