During a sightseeing tour of Manhattan with 12-year-old leukemia survivor Bryson Merriweather and his family while in town for the upcoming NFL Draft, Wake Forest linebacker Aaron Curry offered his opinion of what the Detroit Lions are going to do with the top overall pick. Even though the Lions have reportedly already agreed to contract parameters with Curry’s agents, the Dick Butkus Award winner is convinced that Detroit will ultimately sign University of Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford and make him the No. 1 pick, according to Alex Marvez of FOXSports.com. “In my heart, I think [the Lions] are going to get it done with Stafford,” Curry told FOXSports.com. “I know they have faith in both of us to become great players. They can’t go wrong. They’re really making their decision on a need basis. Quarterback for them is a more important need. I understand that.” If it doesn’t work out with the Lions, Curry would love to be reunited with former high school teammate, defensive tackle Tank Tyler, and go to the Kansas City Chiefs third overall. “Kansas City would be the perfect scenario,” Curry said. “I think it would be God’s blessing that he put both of us back together again. When we were in high school, we made each other better every day in the weight room and on the practice field.” Meanwhile, Curry is intent on making sure that he and Merriweather, whom he met during a recent visit to St. Jude Childrens’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., have a great time this week. Curry is bringing Merriweather, whose leukemia is in remission, and the boy’s father to all of the draft proceedings. “It’s necessary for college and pro athletes to know that we’re role models whether we like it or not,” Curry said. Added Merriweather: “It’s pretty cool to have someone like this as a friend.”
