Drug Test Results Coming Monday Or Tuesday

A league source tells us that the 32 teams will be informed of the players who tested positive for recreational drugs or banned substances at the Scouting Combine early next week, on Monday or Tuesday. Per the source, the league believes that delayed release of the information proves that any leaks of positive results come from the players or their agents, and not from anyone connected to the league or the Combine. Of course, that doesn’t explain the various leaked reports of positive results that have been disputed by the player and/or his agent. Here’s one thing of which we’re certain -- one way or another, the presence or absence of the players who reportedly tested positive will be disclosed to the press not long after the official list arrives. The biggest name to watch in this regard is Boston College defensive tackle B.J. Raji. A report on SI.com identified Raji as a guy who tested positive for marijuana. After an initial tepid response from Raji’s agents that looked curious at best in comparison to the same agency’s aggressive denial of a subsequent report that Clay Matthews tested positive for steroids, the folks at Athletes First came out more strongly against the Raji report, prompting SI.com to take the story down -- but not to issue a retraction. Meanwhile, it remains to be seen whether predictions and rumors will come to fruition that more than 20 names appear on the list.
