Report: Giants Still Considering Browns’ Edwards

In dire need of a big-play wide receiver after recently cutting ties with Plaxico Burress, the New York Giants’ brass are still deliberating over whether they should make a serious run at Cleveland Browns wide receiver Braylon Edwards via a potential trade. According to Paul Schwartz of the New York Post, the Giants remain interested in Edwards and harbor doubts that they can obtain a rookie wide receiver capable of making an impact during his first year in the NFL. The Giants currently hold the 29th overall pick. The potential road blocks to securing a deal for Edwards are his reported contract demands of $10 million in annual compensation as well as working out trade terms with the Browns. The Browns apparently want a first-round draft pick and a third-round draft pick in exchange for Edwards Nonetheless, Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports reported Tuesday that Edwards is likely to be traded to the Giants prior to the draft. Giants General Manager Jerry Reese declined to comment on the report. In an e-mail to the Post, Reese said: “Why would I discuss our personnel issues with the media?” It’s a fair question. However, Reese has previously acknowledged holding initial talks with the Browns back in February.
