Ravens Taking Closer Look At Nicks

There’s a belief in some circles that North Carolina receiver Hakeem Nicks won’t be taken in the first round. So maybe the Ravens are mobilizing the troops for the purposes of eyeballing Nicks in the event he’s still hanging around at the bottom of round two. Per a league source, a delegation of Ravens officials will be heading later this week to Chapel Hill for a private workout with Nicks. The contingent is expected to include G.M. Ozzie Newsome and quarterback Joe Flacco, who will be throwing passes to Nicks. Unless it’s all part of an elaborate smokescreen during an economic downturn that has prompted teams to obsess over costs, the Ravens apparently are considering Nicks as a possible option with the 26th overall selection in the draft. UPDATE: We’re now hearing that Newsome won’t personally be attending the workout.
