L.J. SMITH TO RAVENS IS A DONE DEAL

We reported earlier this week that tight end L.J. Smith had agreed to a one-year, $1.5 million deal, pending a physical. As the hours passed, we started to fear that we’d be adding a new room to the Terry Bradshaw wing of PFT headquarters. But thanks to our own Aaron Wilson, whose primary gig entails writing for the Carroll County Times, Smith to Baltimore is a done deal. Per Wilson, Smith passed his physical and signed his contract. As previously reported, it’s a one-year, $1.5 million package. Last year, Smith played for the Eagles as the team’s franchise player. Wilson writes that Smith is expected to work in tandem with veteran Todd Heap. As several readers have pointed out, the combination of the injury-prone tight ends ensures that the Ravens will have at least one healthy player each week at the position. UPDATE: The team has now announced the acquisition of Smith. “We are very pleased to add such a talented and experienced tight end,” coach John Harbaugh said. “Obviously I had the opportunity to be around L.J. for a number of years in Philadelphia, and there is a comfort level that we have with each other. I know that he is a good fit as a Raven and will be a great addition to our team.”
