T.O. JERSEYS ALREADY FOR SALE

The Buffalo Bills, hoping to recoup some of the $6.5 million in guaranteed money they’ll pay receiver Terrell Owens in 2009, already are peddling his jersey. Bills fans can buy it right here. (And we won’t hold our breath waiting for a cut of the sales.) Noteworthy is the fact that the image of the jersey contains No. 1 on the back. Why not 81? Because that number already has been issued to James Hardy, a second-round pick in 2008 whose career instantly has been slow-tracked with T.O.'s arrival. So, clearly, Hardy has not already surrendered the number. It remains to be seen when or if T.O. -- the self-described “original 81" -- can finagle the number from the second-year player. Based on the team’s online roster, current potential numbers available for Owens include 12, 15, 19, 84, 85, 88, and 89. Curiously, the current online roster shows two players to whom No. 11 has been assigned -- receiver Roscoe Parrish and quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. As of this posting, Owens’ name does not appear on the official online roster. UPDATE: As a reader has pointed out, No. 12 (Jim Kelly) is retired, and No. 15 (Jack Kemp) unofficially is set aside.
