SNOWBALL COSTS SHAUN 10K

The decision of Jets defensive end Shaun Ellis to hoist a large snowball/snow clump into the stands at Qwest Field on Sunday has resulted in the NFL throwing right back at him a $10,000 fine. Per Adam Schefter of NFL Network, Ellis was slapped with the penalty on Tuesday. Schefter reports that players are told before the start of each season that any contact with fans is prohibited, where such contact presents crowd-control issues and/or the risk of injury. In this case, the conduct could have (theoretically) prompted someone to come out of the stands to thrust his face repeatedly against the veteran lineman’s fists. So it clearly was the right call for the league -- and it’s another reason for players to refrain from any questionable conduct while in the public eye. In an age during which George Orwell envisioned constant surveillance from the government, the truth is that Big Brother provides no match to all of the Average Joes with camera phones. Once again, here’s the video.
