CRAZY ENDING IN KANSAS CITY

The San Diego Chargers are still alive in the AFC West. The Chargers entered today with a 5-8 record, meaning they would need to win out -- and the 8-5 Broncos would need to lose out -- for San Diego to have a chance. But the Chargers did their part, winning a strange game with a crazy ending in Kansas City. The Chiefs led 21-10 with just 1:20 remaining in the fourth quarter when Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers hit Malcom Floyd for a four-yard touchdown. The Chargers missed the two-point conversion attempt, but they got the ball back on the ensuing onside kick, and four plays later Rivers hit Vincent Jackson on another touchdown pass. The Chargers again missed the two-point conversion attempt but led 22-21. The Chiefs then took over and proceeded to march down the field, getting to the Chargers’ 37-yard line. The clock ran down to 0:00, but the officials flagged Chargers defensive back Antoine Cason for delay of game for impeding them from spotting the ball, giving the Chiefs five yards and the chance to run one last play. That one last play was a 50-yard field goal attempt, which Chiefs kicker Connor Barth missed, wide left. The Chargers won, 22-21. The Broncos can still clinch the AFC West and knock the Chargers out of the playoffs by beating the Panthers today.
