The Giants got rid of Plaxico Burress, for at least the rest of the season, but the self-inflicted nightclub shooting and ensuing drama will be a huge story for some time in New York and nationally. Just don’t expect coach Tom Coughlin to feed the frenzy.

Coughlin briefly answered a few logistical questions about the aftermath of Burress putting a bullet through his thigh before making it clear that he was done addressing the subject.

“Listen, the state of the union was stated yesterday,” Coughlin told reporters today. “I don’t have anything new to tell you about that stuff.”

Coughlin cut off a follow-up question in mid-sentence.

“I said that I am done talking about that,” Coughlin said.

Of course, fellow Giant club-goers Antonio Pierce and/or Ahmad Bradshaw could have some legal issues as a result of the Burress incident, which would likely lead to discipline from the league. But that isn’t an immediate concern for Coughlin.

“I don’t believe so,” Coughlin said when asked if he had any reason to believe Pierce or Bradshaw won’t play Sunday against the Eagles.
