Prosecutors are not expected to go easy on Giants receiver Plaxico Burress, according to the folks at SNY.tv.
Per SNY, prosecutors want Burress to be jailed for his alleged violations of New York weapons laws, and little or no concessions will be made for him.
The stance isn’t surprising, given that popular New York mayor Michael Bloomberg made clear on Monday his desire that Burress be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
SNY also reports that Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce is not expected to be a focal point of the investigation. Pierce has been cooperating with authorities, which likely has prompted the powers-that-be to view him more favorably, especially since Pierce’s testimony in court could go a long way toward delivering a verdict against Burress.
If convicted on either pending charge, Burress faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 3.5 years.
Thus, if prosecutors aren’t inclined to strike a deal, there’s simply no good way out of this for Burress. In the end, he’ll likely choose to spend a ton of money fighting the charges in the hopes of drawing a jury that isn’t inclined to convict a guy who made, as lawyer Benjamin Brafman already is characterizing it, an isolated mistake.
We actually feel kind of bad for Burress, primarily since there apparently was no one in his life who had the ability to impress upon him the importance of getting an appropriate carry permit or leaving the gun at home or staying home with the gun.
And that might be one of the reasons why agent Drew Rosenhaus opted not to respond to a halftime question from ESPN’s Tony Kornheiser regarding whether Rosenhaus had spoken to his clients about guns. Rosenhaus likely realizes that, no matter what he says, guys like Plaxico Burress will do whatever they want to do.

Can you please do a story where you burn Kornheiser for what a horrible and irrelavant commentator he is? He wasted several minutes of what could have been an important interview pursuing a question that Rosenhaus made clear he wouldn’t respond to. Aside from that, he is the worst MNF commentator in history (including Dennis Miller).

Wasn’t his wife a lawyer yesterday? I think she could have been the one to inform him. Or perhaps the NFL, as you said earlier today they specifically mention problems of transporting a gun from state to state.

I think Burress is an idiot, and I know carrying a loaded firearm is dangerous, but I’m not sure he should go to jail. Unless there is evidence that he was using it to commit some other crime, the guy was probably just carrying it for self-defense, and that doesn’t seem like it should be punished with 3.5 years in jail. How about a hefty fine, his pistol is taken away and he does some community service?

So where are the cries for Pierce being a snitch since he is escaping prosecution for helping to put his friend and teammate in jail. Personally, I don’t have a problem with it, but since so many people had a problem when Nick Kazcur helped to put random drug dealers in jail in exchange for charges not being brought against him. I figured people would be more outraged that Pierce is ratting out his friend and teammate.

Roethlisbunger-
It does seem very severe. I think it is more severe than I would like to see such a law. But he also had a gun, in public, with no license, with the safety off and a bullet in the chamber. He could have killed somebody.

i dont think he is a criminal where he would use the gun to harm people. pacman on the other hand……….i think bloomberg is getting a little carried away with this. i know its easy to say if it were us we’d be in jail etc..we also wouldnt have to carry a gun because were wearing a million dollars in jewels and carrying 3 grand in cash on us. look at sean taylor, steve smith on the giants, will allen when he was on the giants, eddie curry etc. all these dudes were victims of robberies at gun point tied up and so on. its easier to hire a bodyguard but he also told the club he had a gun and explained why and they still let him in. im more curious as to why he was wearing sweatpants in a club (?) because of everything that went down in NYC with puffy, the laws are intense now but mayor mike needs to ease back. I think hes dumb and obviously not bright in any capacity except for the football field but he shouldnt be doing all this jailtime. vick knew what he was doing, he had a company, a graveyard, transported animals and hes not even doing the time plax is facing, ray lewis had witnesses seeing him murder someone, jamal lewis was trafficking coke and he did his sentence in the off season.people testified against pacman that he put the hit out and paid off people to shoot that guy who is now paralyzed and hes gotten in trouble tons since and hes returning punts. the only one plax hurt was himself. i bet half the nfl carries guns, the other half are white…In the south all these rednecks carry guns.

This guy’s sense of entitlement is off the charts, he thinks he can do whatever he wants to, he had the same attitude in Pittsburg. I hope they throw the book at him.
On another note, isn’t it a felony to possess cocaine? Why is Matt Jones playing football. Didn’t Michael Irvin stab a guy in the neck and almost kill him the locker room?
These guys are a joke.

Doesn’t Plaxico have the right to bear arms? He is a complete idiot, and I wish he had aimed 4 feet higher, but with that being said, are we ready to send him to prison for 4 years for doing something that would have been legal outside of the city limits? I understand it was an illegal gun, but NY’s gun laws are absurd. You can’t get a conceal-carry permit unless you’re connected (which he is, so he should have). This story stinks from the prologue to the afterward, so let’s not blame it all on the character development.

Yeah maybe we should wait until he kills somebody before we enforce the law that he clearly broke.
Ignorance is no excuse.

@Rob0769
I highly doubt Pierce was being a snitch given the circumstances and the fact that he was trying to help him hide the gun and get him medical attention. He was most likely put in a situation where he knew that they knew he was with him and could have gotten himself into trouble for obstruction of justice. It’s not snitching if you’re saving your butt from trouble do to your friend/teammate being a dumb*ss!! He needs to make a living as well and if he gets in trouble for lying for Plexiglass he gets charged and most likely suspended for 4 games and paychecks.

what’s ironic is that its not special treatment at all for there to be a plea deal. The way the criminal justice system works these days over 90% of cases get pleaded down. Because Plaxico is high profile he is in worse shape than if he was just some random unfamous rich guy.
Too bad he’s a complete idiot. Unimaginably stupid.

I do feel sort-of bad for the guy - but as others have said, his wife is a lawyer whom Plaxcio has said is brilliant and has a photographic memory. I’m thinking that she should have at least had a “whiff” of the full extent of the strict gun laws in NYC. (More obviously, she should have been familiar with her husband’s propensity to carry “protection” - especially if she’s been out “partying” with him in the past. *hint, hint*) She should have used her lawyer’s mind and lawyer’s persuasive/argument skills to get through to him about the importance of getting a permit.

I might have felt bad for Burress before I found out about him having 50 fines from the team this year for late meetings and other team offenses…this guy is obviously an idiot that has no respect for any authority, even if that authority has made him a very rich man. of course, looks like he’ll be missing some future paychecks, and thus, much less rich.

Or a jury that has a lots of Giants fans on it. I think it’s a safe bet that Brafman will make sure a healthy number of Giants fans are on that NYC jury. As you should know, Florio, prosecuters can talk tough all they want. In the end, it’s ALL about jury selection. Ask OJ.
