For the second time in four days, the San Diego Chargers have received a 24-hour extension of the deadline for selling out Qualcomm Stadium.
The widespread belief in media circles is that teams get extensions only when some other entity already has agreed to purchase any leftover tickets. So, basically, the extension is meaningless; the game will be aired in the home team’s local market even if no further tickets are sold.
Usually, the extra tickets are purchased by the local network affiliate that would otherwise lose the ability to broadcast the game. For example, FOX 5 in San Diego bought the rest of the tickets to Sunday’s loss to the Falcons.
This time around, the game will be aired on NFL Network, and the league is unlikely to commit to buying extra tickets to one of its franchise’s games. Instead, our guess is that the unsold seats will be bought by the local broadcast channel(s) who have secured the rights to show the game in Southern California.

So does San Diego have the worst fans in the NFL? How many would show up if it was snowing?

No surprise. The Bolts arent worth paying to see. The Raiders game as been a sure victory the past 5-6 years but even that is in doubt this time. They’re just not good this year. On both sides of the ball.
Thanx, Norv

So, the tickets are bought, but no one is in the seats? yeah, that is a good image to broadcast on tv. I hope those tickets are given to underprivileged kids or — since it is San Diego — members of the military.

I’m thinking the only way the NFL can make its point is if it does a nationwide blackout of this game. I wouldn’t mind that. It would be much better then watching LT gain 2 yards then run out of bounds over and over again. Seriously the only reason I’ll be watching is to see which coach makes the dumbest calls.
How do you top tonights snoozefest between 2 nonplayoff teams? Follow it 3 days later with another showdown of 2 nonplayoff teams. Yet the Titans only had 1 real primetime game (the Lions game doesn’t count).

“The widespread belief in media circles is that teams get extensions only when some other entity already has agreed to purchase any leftover tickets.”
Being a Raiders’ fan, I am somewhat of an expert on blackouts, and at least in the case of the afformentioned team, the above statement isn’t always true.

I don’t follow the Bolts but how long can Norv survive? This was once a championship caliber team and now the wheels are falling off the cart.

Well, hindsight is 20/20, and no one thought the Titans were going to have the season they are having now. And it’s not like the Titans have a history of being a dominant team in recent years either. Last season you had to rely on a back alley deal with the Colts to make the playoffs and then went one and done.
Plus, Tennessee has like no following outside of their local area, so they aren’t likely to get many national games anyway, unless they have a really kick ass regular season and a stellar post season.
If you guys continue to dominate and go deep in the playoffs, you’ll see a bit more of your team on the national stage next season. If you continue to play at a high level, you’ll get more and more prime time games in front of a national audience.

titans_fan, uh, hopefully you’re not serious about a national blackout. you should be careful what you wish for with this Goodell regime running the league (into the ground).
Nonetheless, I think its about time the Spanos clan starts making reservations with the Mayflower vans after week 17 to get ready to set up shop in LA next season. San Diego is never going to be able to support the Chargers.

Maybe the stadium is so far EAST of town that the fans don’t want to have to TRAVEL there to see the game?
Denver has won in the Eastern time zone 3 of the last 4 weeks - getting tired of that excuse bolts fans, come up with a new one please.
1) The NFL is fixed and the refs hate us - NO
2) We have to travel so much to play - NO
3) We just suck - YEP
