After the Bengals lost on Sunday to fall to 1-10-1, coach Marvin Lewis promised that the fans won’t be subjected to such a horrid season again next year.
But will Lewis be around to fulfill that promise, or will he be fired after his worst season as a head coach? Bengals owner Mike Brown said today that he believes Lewis is the right man to turn the team around.
“I thought that was a good statement,” Brown said, per Bengals.com. “No one down here is happy with what has happened and we all want to correct it badly. That was an indication he plans on correcting it.”
Brown didn’t want to characterize his comments as a vote of confidence, but he had nothing but positive things to say about Lewis, who still has two years left on his contract.
“In many ways he’s done an incredibly good job,” Brown said of Lewis. “Our players still try hard and that’s hard to come by when you go through all the losing this team has gone through.”
Brown also said he has no plans to hire a general manager, he thinks quarterback Carson Palmer will come back strong from his elbow injury and he expects wide receiver Chad Ocho Cinco to stay with the Bengals for the duration of his contract, and he defends the Bengals’ decision to tolerate trouble-makers like wide receiver Chris Henry by comparing him to Giants receiver Plaxico Burress.
“If you’ve got further concerns on that kind of thing,” Brown said of issues with problem players, “you’ll have to call the New York Giants who have an 11-1 record and their guy, who has taken the role over of NFL bad guy.”
For the owner of a team with the second-worst record in the league, Brown sounds like he feels pretty content with his team as it is.

I wonder how many people will blame this season on Carson missing it. I don’t think thats the case, playing on bad football teams in my past. The Bengals have some gifted players but they dont play well with others.. Its seriously time to clean house. Though being a Ravens fan I hope they don’t. Thats 2 wins for sure next year.

Oh my God. Go away, Mike Brown.

The main reason the bengals have fell from 2005 is our offensive line,
We went from having top 3 Oline to one of the worst which is was overrated past 2 seasons even though it gave up less then 40 sacks in 2006 and 2007 Carson never had time to throw…
Anyways Mr. Brown if it’s because were only missing carson then why were we 0-4 with him this year?Oya Because we have the worst Scouting Staff the Worst Trainers and the worst assistant coaches.

The only way Lewis can right the ship is if he is given the reins over personnel, salary cap, etc. Brown and his incompetent kin who occupy all positions of power in the organization have run this thing into the ground. What a douche bag.
Mike Brown is the genius who decided the team was better off taking Akili Freakin Smith instead of trading for the Saints ENTIRE STOCK OF PICKS!! Brown is a walking disaster of a GM.

Mike Brown is getting everything out of this team that he didn’t put into it.
His tightwad policies and uncaring ways (he thinks it’s o.k. not to make the playoffs because he says you lose $$$ when you make the playoffs) are the undoing of the franchise.
But that’s o.k. The fans in Cincy are dumb enough and football starved enough to continue to buy the tickets and put their stupid behinds in the seats.
It would take a well-organized boycott to even begin to get his attention, and no cares enough to organize one. Somebody should, but I don’t have the time. Any takers?

Status quo, and no surprise.
Nobody has EVER deserved to own an NFL team LESS than Mike Brown.
I will now light myself on fire.

Why would he think Lewis would “correct” anything? Lewis has only 1 winning season in his career as a head coach.

mike brown is not the only one content with this team. most intelligent bungal fans (boy, now that’s an oxymoron if i’ve ever heard one) are also content as they must have realized by now that this is about as good as it gets in cincy.

All I heard was “blah, blah, blah. We won’t be hiring a GM. blah, blah, blah.”
I don’t believe the front office will ever change. I think the Browns still feel victimized by what happened to Paul with Art Modell in Cleveland 50 years ago. The don’t believe in anyone outside the circle of trust. They’ll just give everyone the Gaylord Focker treatment.

Why wouldn’t Brown be content? He has convinced a bunch of working people that it’s in their best interest to finance a stadium AND shell out $50 at a time to watch a bunch of pampered millionaires play a child’s game.
Panem et circenses!

16 players on IR, including 7 starters. Not to mention their pro-bowl QB out all season. you cant say they would be this bad with carson.
mike brown isnt “content” with the team; he’s obviously mad that a bengal gets a speeding ticket and the media calls for mike’s head, yet plax has an illegal gun and shoots himself in the leg and nothing is said about giants management.
-everything was said about chad johnson wanting a new contract, yet plax sat out with an “injury” until he got his new contract and has been fined 50+ times
-bradshaw went to jail for 30days this offseason, yet he was a “great find” in the draft.
-mckenzie just had a DUI a 2 weeks ago, and he’s been playing

Why should he want to change? He is making a boatload of bucks, spends doodley squat on his staff, sponges off the rest of the NFL that works hard. As long as the fans in Cincy buy his tickets, why should he change. The only thing you can do is NOT SHOW UP! Mike Brown is a miscreant. He has no more business owning the Bungles than Mike Florio. At least Florio knows something about pro football. I hate the Bungles, but honestly feel sorry for the fans. They have been sold a bill of goods. He won’t fire Marvin because his contract still has years. He is too cheap to do so. At least Steve Biscotti decided that Billick was done in Bmore, ate 15 million in salary because he wants to win. Winning and Mike Brown are rarely found in the same paragraph.

I’ve said it before, I think Marvin Lewis is a good coach. I think his biggest problem is he’s always getting undermined by the owner and as a result the players don’t respect (or fear) him enough. The inmates are and have been running the asylum.
Besides what coach would want to take control of that team if they fired Lewis? No offense but Cincy is becoming the Oakland of the East.

And someone in another post said it wasn’t fair for this team to be relegated.
If there was ever a time for the Euro style of professional sports. It is now. Send the Lions and Bengals to the CFL. Bring in Calagary and Toronto. (Or whoevers good up there.)

Wow you are an idiot. Almost every fan is so pissed off and are not content at all. Way to be an idiot.
Also if people are really trying to use attendance to make Bengals fans look bad just wow. Tickets have been already been sold out. What good would not attending games do? None at all. The tickets have already been bought. The money has already been sent to Mike Brown. Not going to the games would be throwing the money away. Before you talk crap about Bengals fans just try to think first. Come on. Do it. It’s not too hard.

Also I love how people continue to say the Bengals are full of criminals. It’s amazing considering the fact it’s been awhile besides for Henry. I mean 2006 was the last person actually arrested and still people use the criminal thing which is sad. Again not counting Henry.
