Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports that Buccaneers defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin will leave the team and join his son, Lane, at the University of Tennessee.
The elder Kiffin will remain with the Bucs for the rest of the season.
Monte Kiffin came to Tampa in 1996, as a member of coach Tony Dungy’s first staff there. After the 2007 season, Lane Kiffin reportedly wanted to bring Monte to Oakland, where Monte Kiffin would have served as defensive coordinator and Lane Kiffin would have served as the head coach.
Lane Kiffin was fired by the Raiders in September.

Great news for Tennessee, now we just need an offensive coordinator who can turn our miserable QBs into serviceable ones.

Coach Lane will take Tennessee all the way- back to the middle of the pack in the SEC.

Lets see….. Al Davis mentioned that Kiffin wanted to bring his daddy on board and many laughed it off as Davis just making stories up. Looks like this was true. As was many of the other things Davis said about Kiffin like him applying for college jobs while still with the Raiders and him throwing players and other coaches under the bus.
Kiffin wont be getting a dime from Davis. And he doesnt deserve to.

I’m more excited about Monte coming to town than Lane. Hell yeah! Go UT!

Anyone here defending Davis are morons! He deserves to get paid, look how Oakland were competing under Kiffin, since his firing they have been pothetic.

I’m confused why Chavis didn’t get any buzz for the head coaching job. UT has a great defense, particularly when you consider the enormous failures of the offense, but I didn’t hear one thing about Chavis getting consideration. Now he’s going to be somewhere else next season and, while I know Monte Kiffin has a ton of experience and has been very successful, I can’t help but feel like we’re missing out on a home-grown talent.

At least Monte and Gruden can still hang out at Gruden’s Knoxville homes.

Losing Monte hurts the Bucs more than anything. Gruden’s offense still stinks it up most of the time but that defense is what makes that team rise and fall. Frankly if I was UT I might have hired Lane just to get Monte.

If this turns out to be true which it might not, the Bucs will be just fine. Its just gonna be weird not seeing Monte on the sideline on sundays. I think its a stupid move on Montes part. What is he thinkin?

Lane Kiffin is unqualified, and Monte Kiffin is overrated. Perfect for the idiot hicks in Knoxville. When Dungy left, everyone said the Bucs’ defense was dead. Now, Combover Kiff leaves and we’ll hear the same crap. Those who have watched this team the last few years already know that Raheem Morris is the best defensive coach on the team, and the Glazers better lock him up as Defensive Coordinator with a fat pay raise.

I was saying the exact same thing the other day. Oh, Imperial Emperor AL just doesn’t like him. He really didn’t try to run Rob Ryan out in favor of his daddy, huh? Oh, Adam Schefter says there’s no truth to the rumor of Monte leaving Tampa Bay so it must be a made up story, huh? And yet, here we are, as soon as the little worm gets a job, the first thing he does is get daddy to come along for the ride. Who was the liar here?
As it stands, I think Monte would be a complete moron to give up a job with a promising NFL team to go to a college team. With his defensive record, he likely has a future in the NFL. If he runs in favor of his son, it’ll be damn hard to regain that at a later date.
