It’s Tuesday night, and Adam Schefter of NFL Network points out that the league office has not yet suspended either Patriots left tackle Matt Light or Dolphins linebacker Channning Crowder for their Sunday fisticuffs, during which Light grabbed Crowder by the hair and pummeled his helmetless pineapple.
Here’s the video.
Both players were ejected, and at a minimum stiff fines are anticipated. But, as Schefter explains, suspensions for the upcoming games would likely be announced early in the week, before preparations commence in earnest for the next round of games.
This also might be short-term good news for the StarCaps Six, who had their appeal hearings last week and who have yet to be bounced for four games. (Then again, judgment day might come next week in the StarCaps cases; if as reported the league wants to get the suspensions served before the end of the regular season, they need to start by December 7.)
For Light and Crowder, fines could still come at any moment.

When have you ever seen a Patriot player suspended? It doesn’t happen. Goddell has lost all face, in my opinion. There is nothing but subjective rulings on his watch. How about the other Patriot lineman that was busted for buying drugs and went informant to save his ass from jail time….. no suspension. Kraft has video of Goodell doing something.

What are the chances the Patriots appeal Light’s suspension allowing him to play against the Steelers?
Makes sense cause they probably wouldn’t need him against the Seahawks or Raiders who are next on their sched

Actually, Crowder didn’t do a damn thing. He took a few shots and jogged off, laughing. He probably thought he had successfully drawn Light into a penalty, escaping one himself. Crowder shouldn’t have been ejected at all

Uh, Rodney Harrison = 4 games in 2007. Kevin Faulk = 1 game this season.
You’re pretty bad at hating the patriots, bro.

Well, if Henderson from the Jaguars didn’t get suspended for trying to take out the eyes of that Bengals O lineman, why should Light or Crowder get a suspension? Then again, Goodell is far from consistent on any of these suspensions/fines he hands down.

In the wake of the fight a few weeks ago between the Bengals and Jaguars, neither Henderson nor Whitworth was suspended. And Henderson almost had his thumb up to the joint shoved in Whitworth’s eye. So precedent for disciplining players involved in a bit of ugliness was set. If the League truly isn’t planning on suspending players for the scrum between Light and Crowder, at least their being consistent.

oxycontin is a pain killer, not exactly blow. Yea not like the patriots have been fined, loss of draft pick and nationally irrationally persecuted for something that the whole league has been guilty of and the patriots had video evidence of other teams doing to them.
There won’t be suspensions, there shouldn’t be suspensions, it was a couple of love taps, not Albert Hanesworth like stomping on a defenseless players on the ground like.

Even if Crowder DID instigate this, which I really doubt, there is NO way he should be fined.
all he did was jog away from it, which I’d imagine is the right thing to do.

While I would agree that Goodell’s tenure has clearly sent the league in the wrong direction in many ways, you’re off on this one.
Other than the Kaczur situation and Kevin Faulk getting nabbed with a few joints in his pocket, name me another inciident that has been suspension worthy? I know, I know, the Pats are evil cheaters, but in reality there have been very few on or off field incidents (until this Sunday) in which a suspension would be justified. Nice try though.

Crowder’s ejection was a joke. He made every effort to get away from Light rather than to retaliate. Fining him would be an even bigger joke. Suspending him would be the cherry on top of one of the worst NFL seasons in recent memory in terms of quality of officiating and discipline.

I imagine it’s just going to be a fine for both of them. In fact, aside from on here, I haven’t even seen mention of it.
Crowder gets a fine for a late hit, and Light gets a bigger fine for slapping him. And Fins fans can piss and moan about it for the next year.

Good point. Hit someone legally hard and either face suspension or fine or both. But get ejected for fighting, no big deal. Jeez, and I thought his rule as commissioner would be a good one. OK, the second time I was wr…, wr…, mistaken.

Wow yoyo, you are a total genius. You must be right. The Patriots are above the law. That’s the reason the league didn’t look into Jimmy Johnson’s confessions about taping with the Cowboys, which he learned from the Chiefs–because the Patriots must have wanted it that way. Any why the league didn’t look into Johnson’s assertions that the Dolphins organization taught him to to get around the 15 second coach to quarterback radio cut off so they could tell Marino the signs they had just stolen at the very last second–the Patriots must have wanted to cover up that too. Bravo, yoyo, you are so smart. Kraft has some video of Goodell doing something. Hey, let’s let the other 31 owners know about this. Obviously, they aren’t as smart as you, and don’t realize Kraft is getting away with murder. Oh wait, I know, Kraft has video on all of them. That’s why they aren’t speaking up. This all makes perfect sense, yoyo, because Belichick loves to tape things. Everyone has been compromised! We must stop the evil, get away with murder Patriots. Go yoyo go!

Right…except for the part where he actually started it. Watch the video OBJECTIVELY….He and Light were wrestling in a completely normal fashion, then Hochstein got blocked into Light, causing Crowder to be propelled back and downward (which he probably assumed was Light’s intention, and also I think is what caused his helmet to come off)….he then got up and came at Light. Light shouldn’t have smacked him, but saying Crowder did “nothing” and denying that he initiated the fight after something that was caused by natural physics, is ridiculous.

mw4365,
“all he did was jog away from it, which I’d imagine is the right thing to do.”
Of course he did, he was getting a beat down and that’s why he “jogged” away. Both players will NOT be suspended as multiple posters have pointed out, there is precedent here with Henderson/Whitworth. The only reason there is any focus on this is because it involves the Pats and not the Jaguars or Bengals. People love to hate on long running winners, who have beat down on their
team(s) for some time now. The Raiders and Cowboys were hated when they were doing the same in the past, nothing new.
