Minnesota Vikings defensive end Ray Edwards was fined $25,000 for a pair of illegal hits in last week’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and he’s not happy about it.
Speaking about that fine today, Edwards called the NFL’s decision to fine him “ridiculous” and “outrageous.” And he wasn’t done there.
“No offense to women, but men don’t wear panties,” Edwards said today. “We chose to play this game. We don’t cry when we get cracked unexpectedly. That fine is what it is. Just got to go out there and play ball and have fun.”
Edwards was fined for a late hit on Buccaneers quarterback Jeff Garcia and a leg whip on an offensive lineman. He says he will appeal the fine, and he added that while he understands why he was fined for hitting Garcia, he claims that he doesn’t even know what a leg whip is.

What are the chances his fine for his comments is close to he fine for what he did?

Edwards should quietly appealed the fines and kept his trap shut. Goodell should have slapped his ass with a 1 game supension and the fine. The Leagues policy is obviously not getting through to the players. Just fining the players isn’t working. Start suspending anyone who violates the rule. DB Elbert Mack got a suspension for hitting Matt Ryan after he had thrown an INT.

Shut your mouth Ray. The hit was late as hell, the whole world knew a fine was coming. I agree that the league is treating the QB’s like pansies but the rule says you can’t hit them late, and it was way late, so you got to man up and pay the fine. Now you open your mouth and will be adding to the human fund as Florio calls it.

You have to agree with this guy. The hits they are calling against the QB are absurd. They have to lighten up.

What a turd. We have players being fined $15K for celebrating a TD & he’s complaining about $25K for a pair of bad hits. The hit on Garcia is really what he was fined for, the leg whip was pretty much a free one that they probably threw in there so he could learn what it is & not do it again.
Oh, and Ray…MOST men don’t wear panties…most men also don’t wear purple…Go Bucs!

I have liked some Goodell moves since he’s been in control, but he should be fined $200,000 for giving out all of these ridiculous fines and stealing the players money. He is no better than a bank robber or a money launderer. If this was his brilliant idea coming into this position he should have just started his own two hand touch league. Protect players lives but you can’t protect players from major injuries because most of the major injuries come from clean hits or players shifting directions and blowing out knees and you can’t do anything about those so what message are these fines really sending other than Goodell wants to turn the league into a “pansy” league. Make the Qb’s wear red jersey’s and take away the pass rush then see what the game turns into. Every hall of famer will think Goodell’s a joke haha

I’d be cranky, too, if I announced to the world I was going to break Strahan’s single season sack record.
He has the same number of sacks as he does the amount of times we’ve heard his name this year…TWO.
The ONLY time we hear about Ray Edwards is when he says something stupid.

How fun would that be?

Ray is just upset that he only has 2 sacks for the year and he now needs 21 sacks in 5 games to beat Michael Strahan’s sack record in one season (if you forgot in the off season Ray said how he was going to beat Strahan’s single season sack record), so Ray is taking it out on the nfl.

Before any more idiots respond to this posting. Please take a look at the hit on Garcia at real speed.
Garcia was scrambling and threw the ball away a split second before Edwards popped him. The hit was not helmet-to-helmet and it was not late. Garcia had been scrambling all over the field on that play, and there was no way for Edwards to know, prior to launching himeself at the QB (who still had the ball at the time) if Garcia was going to pump fake again, or if he was really going to throw the ball away.
The NFL is getting to the point where small market teams are not allowed to play defense.
Also, if those of you who think the QB should be wearing flags instead of pads want your way, fine. But if they are going to fine Edwards 25K for that minor high school pop he put on Garcia… than two Jags players should be suspended in short order for their hit on Gus Ferrotte Sunday. Ferrotte slid on that play long before he was hit by both players, and one of those hits took him out of the game for a couple of plays. Last I heard, the NFL had a rule that said when a QB starts to slide, he cannot be hit. Clearly the Jags violated that rule. So, those of you who are crying about Garcia hurting his girl parts should be vocally supporting both Jags players getting fined or suspended… right?

I think I have the tactics of the Vikings D-Line figured out now. Since they don’t have a real 1st string QB, they are going around trying to knock everyone else’s 1st stringer out by any means necessary - then all the other teams will know their pain.
Oh and Ray, shut the hell up - why don’t you talk about setting the league record for sacks this year some more?

The fine was deserved, but he should be grantd the freedom of speech to publicly disagree with the fine without fear of more fines. By the same token, the public should be free to call him a dumbass for contesting a legit fine. People have the right to criticize the guy, but what’s more interesting, a guy who makes comments like Edwards does, or some politically correct vanilla loser without any balls?
