The Patriots were accused of running up the score practically on a weekly basis during their undefeated regular season last year. There haven’t been complaints about that this season, probably because the Patriots haven’t had many opportunities with Matt Cassel replacing Tom Brady.
Well, the Patriots had a run-up-the-score opportunity yesterday in Miami. And they took advantage of it at the end of a game marred by fisticuffs, according to Dolphins nose tackle Jason Ferguson. The Patriots final touchdown came on fourth down in the game’s last minute.
“I think we showed a lack of class on both sides of the ball,” captain Jason Ferguson told Albert Breer of Sporting News Today. “I think they showed a lack of class, though, even after that. When you’re down to 40 seconds and you’re up 10, teams down the ball. Bottom line. You don’t continue to try to rub it in. And you can say what you want, they rubbed it in.
“That’s what rubbed guys the wrong way.”
Some Dolphins pointed out that Miami didn’t throw a pass in the fourth quarter of their blowout win in Foxborough earlier this season.
“I hope we see them again in the playoffs,” Ferguson said. “We’ll see what happens then.”

What are they supposed to do? Take a knee and give the ball back? Kick a field goal?
If you don’t want them to run up the score, don’t let them score. This isn’t a top ranked team playing against a 1-AA team in college.
Especially in a division game when the series is now split, you never know how the season is going to end, and net scoring is a tiebreaker eventually.

Stop them or just shutup. Interesting how many games this season throughout the league have had large scores and wider victory margins than this game with no comments but this is the Patriots therefore it is running up the score.

plain simple, bellichick wanted to make it look like a blowout, he wanted to rub it in and get revenge on his worst coaching game earlier this season…
i really don’t respect that for the simple fact that guys started to get injured (and on both sides !) and it got to a point where there was a fight. that’s stupid from bill’s part
but there is one brilliant thing to this… joey porter got emotionally caught by this and direspected his coach. You don’t want your team leader to get in a scuffle with your coach in the middle of a playoff push, and i think bill forecasted this scenario, he’s a cheater but a brilliant one

I think we all realized yesterday Miami is a bad team and won a few games this year with the wildcat offense.
Couple options for the dolphins moving forward:
1. practice harder instead of running your mouth (porter)
2 Not give up 50 points in a game to basically a rookie QB.

Last week we had football players who were ignorant about overtime rules
This week we have players who are ignorant about tie-breaking procedures and the fact that points scored could wind up being a very important tie-breaker, especially in a Conference, as well as a division, where all the wild card teams are currently at 7-4.
Looks like Jason Ferguson is vying to take the “Idiot Award” away from his fellow teammate Porter.

LOL! Joey Porter goes on national television and gives Keyshawn Johnson one of the most disrespectful and classless interviews in recent years and his teammates expect the Pats to treat them with respect.
“Waaaaaaa! We were classless, but they were more classless because they beat our arses and made us look bad.”
Don’t worry Jason, you won’t be going to the playoffs to see the Pats.

Right, you didn’t throw a pass because you kept running the wildcat including that 60+ yard TD run.
The Pats were running Green-Ellis up the middle. If Porter kept his mouth shut, the Pats wouldn’t have gotten that automatic first down that put them in the red zone. They ran it 4 straight times to run out the clock and happened to get in the endzone. The Dolphins gave up. If they didn’t want the score run up, they should have tried harder on that 4th down because none of them put up a stand.
