Krista Voda of FOX, who’s working the sidelines of the Vikings-Jaguars game, reports that Minnesota running back Adrian Peterson was held out of the first two series simply because the Vikings wanted to “mix things up.”
Let’s see. Peterson is the NFL’s leading rusher, with the strength and speed to break a touchdown from anywhere on the field. Chester Taylor is solid, but he’s no Adrian Peterson.
Though the absence of Peterson didn’t hurt the Vikings, the lack of any apparent reasoning for the move will do little to quiet those who’d like to see the team make a coaching change.

This is one of the stupidest moves I’ve ever heard of. I’m all for giving him a light workload, especially when you have another good back on the roster, but this is insane. Peterson is a superstar and, like Florio pointed out, can break one from anywhere. After the 4th quarter last week…then this…I wonder if there has been some problem between Peterson and the coaches in ‘Sota? Anyone have any idea on that?

Childress is an idiot. Who in their right mind would think this tactic would work?
Wait….what? The Vikings scored a TD in just 3 plays?

If the Vikings really want to “shake things up,” how about firing their idiot coach instead of benching their best player?

I’m sure the Vikes scoring in just 3 plays is a direct result of benching Peterson to start the game. I’m also sure the Wilfs enjoy seeing that rather large investment sitting on the bench as much as all the fans do…

On the two yard line and you call a pass play. Childress gets my vote for coach who has the least clue on how to use his players.

Actually, I can think of legitimate reason to do this: soften up the defense. Taylor is more of a hammer and cheaper so it would have made sense to use Taylor to soften up the defense and then bring Peterson. For one, it spares Peterson a bit and second it lets Peterson run against tired defense.

They also said Peterson has been bothered with a chest cold. Open your ears. It’s hard to carry the ball 30 times if you can’t breathe.

Well, the Vikings won a game in convincing fashion, there were no late hits or anything by Vikings’ players, and no calls that really benefited the Vikings in any meaningful way. This begs one important question. . .
What are Green Bay Packer fans going to whine about this week?

Mixed it up and the Vikings were up by 14 in the first few minutes…Seems to have worked. I wish Childress would do this more often. AD appears to be wearing down a bit. Why not give Chester the ball? Chester doesn’t have the speed as AD, but Chester can pound the ball. He was over a 1000 yard rusher before AD got drafter.

Childress said after the game that AD and Cedric Griffin were late to a team function and neither started because of it, although Cedric got in after sitting only one defensive series.

The only reasoning I can think of for this is that maybe Childress wanted to save him for the second half but c’mon now…AP’s probably the best conditioned player in the league AND he’s sharing carries with Taylor. Now I know they said AP was feeling a little ill, but aside from that…somebody please enlighten me if there’s a better reason for not fully utilizing your best weapon.
