After scoring a touchdown Sunday against the Jaguars, Titans receiver Brandon Jones celebrated by going to his knees, putting his hands behind his head and then walking to the sideline with his hands behind his back. He said he called his celebration “take me to jail.”
Unsurprisingly, the NFL fined Jones $15,000. Jones doesn’t think that’s fair, and he says he will appeal.
“I’ll definitely appeal it. I don’t feel it is right,” Jones said, per the Tennessean. “The only thing I did was go to two knees. They fined me like I pulled a gun out of my pocket for real and I don’t really think it is fair. It doesn’t make sense. I might as well have pulled somebody out of the stands or something for that.”
Actually, I’m guessing that if Jones had pulled a gun on the field, he would have gotten a little bit more than a $15,000 fine.
But while Jones doesn’t like the fine, he does say he has learned his lesson, both from the fine and the 15-yard penalty he got, and won’t do it again.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean anything by it and it will never happen again,” Jones said. “I thought it was something funny … but I guess it wasn’t.”

Brandon: that silence you hear is everyone laughing with you. That shit was about as funny as the last half-hour of an SNL episode. Cut that shit out!

Pulling a gun and going to jail, hard not to see the humor in that. Everybody should do that at their jobs next time they have something to celebrate, I’m sure the boss would think it’s funny.

Not funny at all. It was pretty pathetic and really says something about his character if that’s his humor. Children didn’t need to see that.
This guy is a douche

Ten years ago, it would have been funny. And while it may be funny to some of us now, we all know what the NFL really stands for, and that means nothing is funny….ever.

Jones, the Titans, “take me to jail”, I had a flashback there for a second, then realized that this stupid act by a Jones, wasnt the same “infamous” Jones. Congrats PacMan, what a legacy you already have. Right up there with names like Maurice Clarett, and Lawrence Phillips, lol

His argument is that it wasn’t offensive. But he was fined for going to the ground and coming back up. As Mike Pereira pointed out, you can’t go down to the ground and come back up unless you’re already on the ground in the process of scoring. The only exception to the rule is going down the praise the Lord.

What doesn’t make sense? Your analogy? I agree.
It would be cool if he got another fine for this idiotic statement.

Actually, the more I think about it, the more I agree….it was unfair….I mean, he’s a star. If a guy averaging 35 yards a game doesn’t have the right to make a spectacle of himself, who does? Seriously, this guy is going to Hawaii in February…..which is why he’d really like to get that fine reduced. So he can afford a plane ticket.

yeah, it really wasn’t funny at all. I’d say every touchdown celebration has been played out, guys are stretching it now on trying to find a new one and usually it’s a bad one.

Since when is “going to jail” considered a celebration? This is what glorifying thugs has gotten us as a society. He deserved the fine for being an idiot.

As rarely as the Titans WRs score TDs he had to do something to make it worth the effort, too bad it was bush league.

bgarcia nailed it– he got fined for voluntarily going down to the ground (other than for a quick prayer) after scoring the touchdown. If I know that’s a penalty, Brandon should too.
Or maybe not. It’s not like he’s frequently given an opportunity to execute a TD celebration anyway.

Yeah, pretending the cops have you at gunpoint and you’ve got your hands behind your head and then pretending you’re handcuffed on your way back to the sideline is reeeeally funny.
He should be fined another $15K for appealing the initial fine.

Just like when players are fighting on the field, the networks need to take the cameras off of these guys. They know there’s a big ol’ camera right in the endzone. The networks, espn, nfl films, glorified this stuff and now look at what we get. Thank you Mr. “white shoes” Johnson. Early role model for Chad.

Next time he scores, instead of celebrating, he should just gouge someone’s eyes out. He’ll get off a lot cheaper.
