MIKE MARTZ FINED $20,000

San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Mike Martz was harshly criticized for his play calling in the final moments of the 49ers’ Monday Night Football loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Martz, in turn, harshly criticized the officials for the way they handled the spotting of the ball before the last play. Now Martz will pay for that criticism: Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the NFL fined Martz $20,000 for his comments. Martz said after the 49ers lost to the Cardinals that he called for a run up the gut on the last play of the game because he thought the 49ers were getting the ball inside the 1-yard line, and he blamed the officials for not telling the 49ers that the ball would be spotted outside the 2-yard line for the final play.
