We sought a response from the NFL today to attorney David Cornwell’s statement saying that Dr. John Lombardo, the administrator of the NFL’s policy regarding anabolic steroids and related substances, should have told NFL players that StarCaps contained bumetanide.
The NFL’s comment on the statement is that there should be no comment.
“Public comments during the process are totally inappropriate,” NFL spokesman Greg Aiello told us via e-mail. “We will continue to respect the program’s required confidentiality until there is a resolution.”
Players who are appealing suspensions related to StarCaps include Saints running back Deuce McAllister, Saints defensive ends Charles Grant and Will Smith, and Vikings defensive tackles Pat and Kevin Williams.

That’s a cop out. The NFL knows Lombardo did something really stupid and dangerous. I’m sure after the appeals process is over they’ll say it’s totally inappropriate to talk about the appeals process after its over.
What if someone died because of this? The the NFL would be accessories to murder.
The NFL is all about fining players 5000 bucks just for celebrating a TD, what should they fine themselves for attempted murder?

You know what else was inappropriate? Some media jackass breaking this story before the appeals process was complete in the first place.
When’s the NFL going to do anything about that person?

Has there been any definite news that the Vikings tackles are involved in this StarCaps mess? I have only seen generic “water pills” up to this point, even when discussing the Saints and StarCaps.

Are you F’ing kidding me?!?!? First of all the NFL is not the FDA. They made a list of substances that are considered safe as far as not being suspended for. After that you are on your own just like in REAL life! It’s not like the substance in question is illegal in the real world. It’s only illegal in the NFL because it can be used as a masking agent. It’s amazing how many people can’t seem to read or understand what they read. No child left behind has definitely not worked!

Um, whatthehellisgoingonoutthere, No Child Left Behind was just put in place not all that long ago. I doubt there’s that many elementary kids running around on this site. But you’re right, throwing money at education definitely doesn’t work.

Hey whatthehellisgoingonoutthere… Bumetanide is illegal to buy without a presciption. It’s illegal to sell without a presciption. That’s why some of the players have a lawsuit against starcaps(because they knowingly put a controlled substance into a product and sold it without a prescription.) What part of that don’t you understand? If the NFL knew about starcaps containing Bumetanide, it should have been placed on the list of banned substances and players should have been warned. The players well being should come above everything and to put them at risk by not releasing this info is beyond belief. These players were not trying to cheat the system.

Bumetanide was found in StarCaps almost 2 years ago. It was in published reports.
From the NFL Steroid Policy
E. Unknowing Administration of Prohibited Substances
Players are responsible for what is in their bodies, and a positive test result will not be excused because a player was unaware that he was taking a Prohibited Substance. If you have questions or concerns about a particular dietary supplement or other product, you should contact Dr. John Lombardo at (614) 442-0106. As the Independent Administrator, Dr. Lombardo is authorized to respond to players’ questions regarding specific supplements. You may also contact the NFL/NFLPA Supplement Hotline at (866) NFL-SUPP or FLSupp@DrugFreeSport.com. Having your Club’s medical or training staff approve a supplement will not excuse a positive test result.
If the players were truly accepting responsibility for what they put in their bodies they wouldn’t be relying on an OK they allegedly got 4 years ago to keep taking the stuff. They could have checked everytime they made a purchase. Suspend ‘em and move on.
