Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jared Allen has incurred another costly fine for an illegal hit on a quarterback. But he has avoided a suspension.
Sean Jensen of the Pioneer Press reports that the NFL will fine Allen $25,000 but will not suspend him after his meeting this week with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.
Allen’s latest transgression was a helmet-to-helmet hit on Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. He had previously received a $50,000 fine for two low hits on Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub.

Funny. I love how the NFL suspends every backup/special teamer for wearing the wrong socks but when a guy like Jared Allen hits a QB helmet to helmet for the 10th straight time they just fine him for a few grand. Yeah, that’ll show him.

Gay..remember a few years ago when they would like count steps and you could hit the qb after he threw if you were within like 2-3 steps away from him? The good old days

apparently somebody’s season or career will have to end at the hands of this cheap shot artist before Goodell decides to do anything….I’m becoming less enthralled with Roger’s decisions every day.

I wonder how many illegal hits have to occur before a suspension does kick in.

He shouldn’t have been suspended. The helmet to helmet was not malicious. The Schaub knee hits were questionable but not egregious.

And the crying you hear. . .is coming from Packer fans from coast to coast.
Upon hearing the news, Aaron Rodgers asked for his binky, a glass of warm milk, and for Mike McCarthy to read him “Goodnight, Moon” before he went to bed.

That hit was not helmet-to-helmet, and if there was helmet to helmet contact, it was just barely and certainly not worth branding as helmet-to-helmet. The fact remains that Allen had a free run at the QB, the ball was released just as Allen hit him, and he tried to pull up but momentum carried him into the QB. Personally, I think if Allen was on a large market team, he wouldn’t have been fined at all, let alone flagged.

chumpslacks,
That is a ridiculous, ignorant comment. Racism and prejudice exist in too many places as it is, let’s not start injecting into places where it does not. That cheapens the work of people who are actively fighting against it.

Come on Viking fans, you would think different if you had a real QB, real defense, real coach, real fan base, real lives. The guy is a hack you all know it. All I heard last year is the hit on AP and how we took him out, whatever. You would feel the same way if you were actual fans of your team.

randy, you are a moron and just proved it with your question. If you actually watched the game you would know that he did not take a cheap shot on Garcia so saying he has no class is just another ignorant statement for an ingnorant person who does not understand football or get all the facts before making a comment. Get the facts before you speak!!!

Hack? are you kidding you morons need to move on and quit hating! He is a great defensive lineman that goes all out! He let up on Rodgers and should not be fined or suspended!
As Osterhouse stated above you used to be able to take a couple of step and still hit the QB, Allen took one step and let up on Rodgers and a horrible penalty was called!
Don’t HATE THE PLAYER HATE THE GAME!!!
They out to wear flags and cut the contact out all together with the way they are going!!!

If we’re only talking about the hit on Rodgers than yeah, he shouldn’t be suspended. But to do that ONE WEEK after getting fined for two blatant cheap shots should warrant a suspension. A guy with a 50 or 60 million dollar contract isn’t going to learn from a $25,000 fine. If he would have learned, he would have been on his best behavior after the Houston game.

randy33872, don’t comment on shit you don’t know about. That was Ray Edwards with the late hit on Garcia, not Allen.
Allen’s hit on Rogers wouln’t have been a fine or required a visit to Goodell if it didn’t come the week after the hits on Schaub.
I think everyone needs to find a youtube clip of this before making a judgement. Allen came in full speed and unblocked and Rogers relased the ball when Allen was about a step away. Allen then backed off prior to hitting Rogers (hands in the air to prevent unecessary extra leverage).
Allen’s helmet did make contact with Rogers helmet, but not a malicious hit or with any intent to injure; just the result for sprinting at Rogers the pulling back at the last second.
It was a 15-yard penalty, but not worthy of a fine had it not come the week after the Texans game. But since it did Allen had to fly to New York and get put on double secret probabation.

As opposed to the Super Bowl contenders from Green Bay, I’m guessing, yes? The same team that has the same 5-5 record and lost to the same “lucky” Vikings a couple of weeks ago?
Good lord, Packer fans have to be the dumbest fans in professional sports.

It’s amazing watching all of these Vikings fans think that it’s the Packers fans doing all the whining when I have yet to see anyone even bring up the Rodgers helmet to helmet hit. It’s just more purple Kool Aid drinkers..the same Kool Aid drinkers that whine about the legal Harris hit on Peterson. Now you are saying that if what they did was a penalty and broke the rules, it shouldn’t be enforced because the rule wasn’t broken bad enough? You can’t have it both ways!
The 2nd Allen hit when he was on his knees behind the QB was as egregious as it gets. He could have grabbed him with his arms and instead decided to spear the back of his knees with his helmet.
If that was Frerotte getting hit illegally like that, the fools like Znorseman and Bgman would be up in arms asking for the electric chair!
