The Minnesota Vikings’ entire starting defensive line could be in danger of getting suspended.
Vikings defensive tackles Pat Williams and Kevin Williams are currently appealing four-game suspensions for testing positive for a banned diuretic. And as we noted this morning, Vikings defensive end Jared Allen is facing a possible suspension over his latest illegal hit on a quarterback.
And then came today’s game, when the fourth and final starter on the Vikings’ defensive line did something that could get him suspended.
Vikings defensive end Ray Edwards delivered an absolutely brutal late hit to Buccaneers quarterback Jeff Garcia, drilling him long after Garcia had thrown the ball. Edwards was flagged for roughing the passer and will definitely be fined, and it’s possible that the NFL will rule the hit blatant enough to merit a suspension.
It’s not clear exactly what the timing is on the appeals for Williams and Williams, and it’s too soon to say whether Allen and Edwards will be suspended. But it’s at least possible that the Vikings could play next week’s game at Jacksonville without all four starters on their defensive line.

He should have been kicked out of the game right then and there.

They’re coached that way. They know their only good players are on the DL and at RB, so they try to take out the opposing QB with cheap shots.
As punishment, do NOT suspend Brad Childress.

He should have been shot.
There is no doubt that the entire Vikings defense is getting suspended for the remainder of the season, and Adrian Peterson will be asked to play all 11 positions on defense. This is not speculation, but fact. Jared Allen is scheduled to die by lethal injection this Wednesday. Kevin and Pat Williams will be strapped to some huge electric chair. The Vikings are all cheaters. All cheaters. This is fact. The Vikings will not be allowed to play any more games this season, they will be forced to forfeit all remaining games.

If it gets rid of Childress, I’m all for it. A real head coach that inspired respect and authority from his players would put that team over the top.

What if John Randle comes back to replace Jared Allen?
What if Randy Moss is traded back to the Vikings?
What is Gus Frerrotte comes out of the locker room with an UZI?

the williams dudes got kinda screwed, but the rules are stated, so the punishment must follow
that late hit was disgusting, but so awesome at the same time, i don’t know if its suspension worthy, depends on his track record

Of course, since there’s no indication that any of them next week are likely to be suspended, this means nothing.
In other news, if the Vikings top 3 QBs are injured, they could be forced to play all of next week’s game in the Wildcat offense.

I can’t watch the game because I’m working so I can’t comment one way or the other on the hit. But based on what I’ve heard via the radio, and correct me if I’m wrong, Tampa had two personal foul calls earlier, one of which was just as bad(by trueblood I believe)

Gutless cheap shots are part of the Vikings’ gameplan. They say coaches have to adjust, and Childress had to do something once it became obvious that his team is marginal, at best. So he told the guys to even out the playing field for him. And, if the D is having a tough time getting to the QB, just execute the cheapshot after the play is over.

The fear in Minnesota is not that the Williams boys will be suspended, but that will be reasoning enough for the owners to not fire Brad Childress if it does happen. This team is dead-heading to a .500 record with it’s defensive line intact. A much worse fate would be dropping the last 6 games and keeping our POS head coach

The Viking fans that are supporting Jarred Allen for his obvious attempts to take quarterbacks out of the game make me sick. And now there are sure to be many supporters of the Ray Edwards hit. That is why I hate the Vikings more than any other. Class-less fans to go along with the class-less Defensive ends.

Yep, PFT is all-out on its anti-Viking hate rant the past few weeks. First Florio was pushing the Fire Childress bandwagon, then the D linemen hate, then the penalties and non penalties, and now back to the D-lineman hate.
Why not just hate Kenechi Udeze for bravery in the face of lukemia while you’re at it too?
Yes the hit by Edwards was extremly late and a hard hit. There’s no defending it. And on top of that it was a stupid penalty. The Bucs were deep in the red zone. The last thing a team needs is a penalty to give the opposition a fresh set of downs to get a TD instead of a FG.
The Williams thing has been overblown. If they’re penalized, it’s from the league taking a zero tolerence stance on a minor infraction from something that several players were misled about by the drug manafacturer. And really what was the drug? Something that makes them pee a lot and is legal. It’s not like the hard core steroids and anything that gives them an unfair competitive advantage. The ironic part if Johnny Jolly and Nick Kazur were caught with enough illegal narcotics to be considered dealers or smugglers. No suspensions for that, but God forbid if they took one StarCaps pill, there goes a quarter of their season. Absolutely ridicilous.
As far as Jared Allen. He’s not dirty. He’s non-stop effort to get to the QB. The two hits on Schaub, and especially the hit on Rogers were the case of the guy going full speed to the QB and not having a chance to hold back without playing a less aggressive style of football. Both hits on Schaub, Allen was falling/being pushed to the ground and his continuation of effort took him to the knee because he couldn’t get to the upper body, he didn’t target the knee. The hit on Rogers he was unblocked and was full steam when Rogers let go of the ball with Allen just a foot or so away. How the hell is someone supposed to go from full sprint to completely stopped in matter of a foot or two. Allen even held his hands up so he wouldn’t hit Rogers with any more force than was needed to stop his momentum.
But the NFL may as well suspend him if he can’t play his style. Today against the Bucs he looked like a basketball players with four fouls and afraid that any type of aggressive play would result in him being sent to the bench. It totally took him out of his game and I saw very few all-out bull or speed rushes at the QB.

YO, BGMAN,
Were Jared Allens comments this preseason about “putting his helmet into Aaron Rodgers’ spine” also just a result of his “constant hustle,” and “desire to get to the QB?”
Please. The dude is a dirty player and an alcoholic who has no respect for himself, society or the game he plays.

In the words of Buddy Holly…”That will be the day”.
If Edwards is suspended for that hit, the NFL does mean “Not For Long”. He should be fined, but seriously, if he is suspended it is another step by the commish to make pussies out of players.
