No team has relied more on trick plays this season than the Miami Dolphins.
The Dolphins famously installed the Wildcat offense this season, but it goes beyond that. Last week it was a flea-flicker touchdown pass to Ted Ginn. And today against the Raiders it was a touchdown run by Ginn.
On a first-and-10 from the Raiders’ 40-yard line, Ginn lined up on the right side, then took a handoff from Chad Pennington on an end-around and streaked downfield to the end zone.
In his first year as the Dolphins’ head coach, Tony Sparano and his staff have put together an offense that consistently out-smarts opposing defenses. And as long as they keep working, the trick plays will keep coming.
All the Raiders-Dolphins action can be followed here.

Everyone that said Ginn was a bust can suck it.

I don’t think the end around is a trick play. It’s pretty common, and not all that tricky. A reverse might count though, since there is some attempt to confuse the defense about where the ball is.

i love it, the nfl lacks sizzle, the west coast offense
and pro-style offenses are boring and outdated, sporano and
big tuna are bringing some sizzle, and i like the Ginn-n-Juice offense.

If the formation and the plays derived from it are a standard part of the offense, at what point does it cease to be a trick?
Hint: it stopped being a trick during Week 4.

A TD is a TD.
A Win is a Win.
The ball is snapped, the D gets burned for not playing position. Trickery???? No, lack of discipline.

How about Hoculi screwing the Fins out of a possible FG?
Pennington completed a pass to Bess with about 11 seconds left. Chad asked for a TO, but Hoculi let time expired, then called for 3 seconds to be put back on the clock. Granted the Fins had the ball at midfield and would’ve need about 15-20 more yards to get in range, but Hoculi’s bungling of the situation cost them a shot.

The trick isn’t the Dolphins calling a flea-flicker… its the Raiders masquerading as an NFL team.

The coaching staff is getting the most out of the players they have using odd plays and formations (wildcat.)
And we have a Ted Ginn sighting!

Is it a “trick” play when it fools the Raiders? That’s like “seducing” the town tramp.

Wow, people still disrespect Ginn it seems… Not like he hasn’t been making a play every game… Oh wait…
And it was Ginn who found an opening on 4th and 5 to give us a shot at the game winning field goal!
Give Ginn props, he deserves it.

So is a play action pass considered a trick play? It’s supposed to be a handoff, isn’t it?
Florio, you need to stop dissing the Fins or I’ll have Joe rose headbutt you!!
It’s refreshing to see the Dolphin offense with some creativity.
We got so used to
run for 2 yeards on 1st down, run for 1 yard on 2nd down, throw an incomplete pass on 3rd down, punt on 4th down under Waandstadt.

guys, calm down. florio isn’t slighting the fins, he’s just saying we’re successfully using non-standard offensive plays to generate yards & points.
i like the alternative-offense style, and i’m embracing it. Florio is just reporting it.
