NFL spokesman Greg Aiello has informed us that, in light of the current economic climate, the face value for playoff tickets will be lower this year than they were a season ago.
Per Aiello, the average prices of playoff tickets will reflect an approximate reduction of 10 percent over last year.
Commissioner Roger Goodell recently sent playoff pricing guidelines to all contending teams. For the first time, teams will be authorized to charge less for wild-card games than for the divisional round. Typically, tickets for those two rounds have been priced the same.
Final prices will depend upon the teams hosting playoffs games. Last year, the average cost for a playoff ticket (including wild-card, divisional, and conference championship games) was $121.

I like this move, will make it easier for more real fans to be there rather than continuously making it rougher on the blue collar crowd. Nice move Roger!

Is it a cold day in hell or something?
Maybe the NFL isn’t all about making money after all.

They won’t lower preseason tickets. Currently you have to buy them as a season ticket holder so they juice extra money out of you. Do what my brother and I do, donate them and write off the full face value as a donation. Or give them to family members so they won’t bug you during the regular season.

Come on folks open your eyes! They did this so outfits like stub-hub can make more money! The cost of entry for the brokers is lower but they true cost of the ticket to the consumer will be just as high (or higher) than it was last year.

Are they lowering all tickets by 10% or the average by 10%. That makes a HUGE difference.

prolly afraid of having to black out a playoff game.
wonder what % of the tickets get used by face value buyers.
seems the scalpers and ticket agencies (sanctioned scalpers)always have plenty.

The important reduction isn’t the face value, it’s the re-sell value. Given the economy, we’ll probably see that too.

The way playoff tickets are distributed is up to each team. Every team that I am aware of offers playoff tickets to their season ticket holders before anyone else. Hardly just the corporate world. Now if you were thinking of the Super Bowl, you would be on to something there (Although there is still a way for the average fan to get a shot at them too).

Great news for fans.
As Goodell said, “The NFL is not recession-proof.”
If he’s smart enough to see this, that’s good news for the NFL.

I would like to point out that internet brokers are simply selling the tickets at the price designated by demand. This is the basis of economics, and it works great. I paid $300 plus for a ticket to the last Ravens playoff game, and I am glad I had the opportunity. Other than the internet brokers, where else was I supposed to get them? They provide a great service for sports fans.

Colin, what I meant was last year my seat was 89.00 and this year it went all the way up to 117.00 so I dont see Kraft being happy getting just 4 extra dollars per seat.

There is no such thing as a team hosting three playoff games. So, unless you are including the road game, the $121 math is invalid.

Don’t stop there. Regular season games cost way too much as well. They have for ages. Pro sportshave priced their fans out for quite some time now. They’re lucky anything sells out at all.
Of course, it’s the fault of the idiot fans who were willing to pay so much to begine with, that got the ball rolling.
Het morons, I got some AC/DC tickets for $200 a pop if you want them.

Let’s see last year for the afc champ game i paid$169.00 per ticket. The following year Mr. Kraft raises his home games to $169.00 per seat.I can’t wait to get my bill for playoff tickets,by the way is due one week before Christmas. Oh that’s right the Kraft’s don’t celebrate Christmas.

I know that this will never be a topic but I think that the NFL is rotting for within and that while popularity is big apparently from the media and whatever TV rankings, etc…look at ticket sales from each team and how many can’t sell tickets and see that the league is quietly losing its fan base…the league’s trying its best to promote itself as a world league or better than the rest but basically, ticket sales are eroding and fans are happy to watch at home or at local bars with NFL ticket….they won’t advertise this…but the tip of the iceberg has been hit and the NFL is a sinking ship like baseball and other sports…..The sport will not survive a strike in 2011….Look and see how many teams are barely getting “sell-out”
status for TV…..NFL Football as we know it today is fading and the glory days are behind.. parity is not paying off for the league…… take a look at the AFC and NFC West Divisions and the rest of the league….watch and see the fade is coming……
