CABLE STRIPS KNAPP OF RAIDERS’ PLAY-CALLING DUTIES

The Raiders’ offense has been atrocious this season no matter who’s calling the plays, but head coach Tom Cable thinks he’s the man to turn things around. Cable has stripped offensive coordinator Greg Knapp of his play-calling duties, Steve Corkran of the Oakland Tribune is reporting. Cable will now do the play-calling himself, which makes Cable the third different coach to call the plays in Oakland this year. Per Corkran, former head coach Lane Kiffin opened the season calling the plays, and then Knapp got the job on Kiffin’s firing. But after the Raiders’ pathetic 77-yard, three-first-down showing against the Falcons, Cable told Knapp he won’t call plays again this season. Cable reportedly started calling the plays Sunday against the Panthers, and although the Raiders’ offense looked better than it had against the Falcons, it still didn’t look good. For that, the Raiders will need not only new coaches, but also new players.
