A league source tells us that Saints running back Reggie Bush underwent arthroscopic on Monday to repair a torn medial meniscus in his knee.
Dr. James Andrews of Birmingham performed the surgery.
The normal recovery time is two-to-four weeks. However, we’re told there’s a chance that Bush will be out of action longer than that, in order to ensure that the knee is fully healed (or, more correctly, as healed as it’s going to be) before Bush returns to action.
The medial meniscus and the lateral meniscus are the two primary shock absorbers in the knee. Torn pieces of the cartilage are surgically removed, since the loose material can affect significantly the performance of the joint.
The only problem is that cartilage doesn’t repair itself or regenerate. And so once enough of it is gone, the player has bone-on-bone contact in the knee.

Ray J also had some bone-on-bone contact, but that was with Reggie Bush’s girlfriend.

this only proves the giants are the best organization in football. how? for putting Umenyiora on the IR with his meniscus tear…… they understand players only have so much cartilage for their careers, why waste it all in one year? Saints obviously don’t get that……..

not all meniscus tears are the same. depending on the type and location of the tear it is actually possible to repair it with no loss of cartilage.
it’s also possible to have a simple tear that can be clipped and put you back on the field in a few weeks vs a major tear that can put you out for much longer.

This is the first time Florio has ever mentioned Reggie Bush without a backhanded compliment, sly dig, or outright insult. All it took was a knee injury that will reduce his quality of life in the future.

…Yeah. In other news, the sky being blue and my favorite color being blue proves I am much smarter than those whose favorite color is not blue.
Did it never occur to you that not every injury is equal, even if it’s the “same” injury? Some guys never recover from ACL problems while some return ahead of schedule with no ill effects. Osi’s injury could easily be more severe than has been reported. Afterall, didn’t Peyton Manning just report recently he had 2 surgeries on his knee, 1 more than previously reported?
