In response to the public lamentations of Vikings coach Brad Childress that fullback Thomas Tapeh didn’t disclose to the team that he had knee surgery only weeks before inking a big-money (for fullbacks) deal with the team, a league source opines that the Vikings knew or should have known about it.
“Didn’t they give the kid a physical?” the source asked. “If they didn’t then they were stupid and if they did and they couldn’t figure out that he had recent knee surgery then somehting is definitely wrong. It’s pretty easy to figure out a guy had recent surgery.”
At a time when fans of the 3-3 team are become increasingly vocal regarding their displeasure with the direction of the team under Childress, the Tapeh situation will only fuel calls for Chilly’s whistle.

Florio, I am begging you, please stop with all these “Fire Chilly” rants. Leave well enough alone. So what if the guy punts in a game when they are down by two scores, its not like they have a QB or even a prayer to win that game. So what if he throws players under the bus on a regular basis, it’s a motivational technique. This surgery was probably well known within the organization, they were just too busy to mention to their resident genius. It is obvious he was too busy working on his kick ass offense that was on full display against the worse defense in the NFL on Sunday as evidence by their 12-10 win.
Our beloved Col Klink has it under control. A tie for first place, two straight wins, hell, the guy deserves a 5 year contract extension and paid moving expenses to Bel Air when the team relocates to Southern California.

Vikings staff member to Tapeh “If you’ll just sit down at the table here and sign this contract, we’ll give you a big bag of cash. Wait, you’re already sitting. Well, just wheel your chair over here and we’ll put the big bag of cash on your lap.”

This is all on Rick Spielman, not Childress. Spielman is the one who signs players. Just check Spielman’s record with the Dolphins to see how he contributed to that team’s downfall (beginning with the outlandish trade for QB AJ Feeley).

Berrian’s toe, Madieu’s neck and Tapeh’s knee. I’d say the medical staff must have been on vacation at free-agency time.

This is the kind of thing that could lead Wilf to pull the plug on Childress and others. You can BS about schedule, injuries, and the myriad of things that happen during a game and during a season, but don’t waste money and cap space on players who cannot make it onto the field (Tapeh and Williams). Don’t expect it to happen during the season, but some changes may be in store. Mid-season coaching changes never produce a better team.

as an obvious packer fan, i love the idea of the vikings keeping childress around. the vikings have an immense load of talent on their team. i don’t even think tjack is that bad of a quarterback. the running backs and running game at minnesota are near the top of the league. though the passing attack and pass defense are abysmal, the vikings should realistically be the front runner in the division. though the vikes have made some bonehead signings, they have a pretty strong team. the biggest problem facing this team is childress’s playcalling. everyone seems to mention the players that are not performing and gives them excuses. the bottom line is that childress is still running barry alvarez’s wisconsin conservative ass offense. this is the nfl brad!! the one time he risked something against the lions (i believe it was 1st down, he went no running backs, spread offense shotgun formation) amazingly berrian took the ball to the house.
childress is plain and simple, the WORST play caller in the league. dennis green might not have been the best influence on his players, but they were his players. he stook by them. he never threw anyone under the bus like childress. the same goes for tice. he was undoubtedly a “meathead”, but he was there for his players.
with childress’s recent comments, he is no doubtedly going to soon lose the lockerroom. granted, kluwe is a punter so he isn’t quite a full fledged member of the team, but what happens next time kluwe is needed to punt and pin the opposing offense deep? is childress going to be chuckling in his ear telling him “do what i say or you’re cut”. what happens when old gus gets hurt? is childress going to tell tjack to get in there and that he has “full confidence in his ability”. tjack will know he is lying thru his teeth.
like i said, as a packer fan, i wouldn’t mind childress staying the headcoach of the vikings forever, but the best thing the vikes could do right now would be to fire his bald ass before he loses the whole team. with peterson having a case of the fumbles recently, how long before childress starts blaming him for losses? more importantly, how long before he takes every bit of confidence away from the best young running back in the game and completely sidetracks his career? zigi needs to recognize that childress is hurting this team and take action before his fans quit going to the games and force him into relocating.

That’s it, that’s the reason Col Klink is still employed today. Ziggy wants to move to LA and what better way to force the situation than to employ the dumbest head coach in the NFL to lose games that they have no business losing which will cut into fan support (not they were all that supportive before Klink) and then Ziggy can throw his hands up in the air and say, “I’ve done all I can, I signed the most expensive FA’s and the fans still wouldn’t come to that giant toliet bowl of a stadium so I am moving to LA”
Its actually brillant in its simplicity. Sort of like the TV series, Col Klink is kept in place not because of his competency but because his incompetency serves the bigger picture.

5 Year Contract extension????? You must be crazy!!!
We need to lock this guy up, make it at least a 15 year deal, and if he wants to coach any other team, they will have to give us 100 first-round draft picks. We can’t afford to lose another quality sports-personality from this town anymore (Moss, Garnett, Santana, Gabrorik, now Childress????)

Look. Have Ziggy pay whatever money he needs to to bring in Bill Cowher. Give him whatever he wants. The defense is one that Bill loves, and Bill would work Peterson for 2,000 yards a year.
The biggest complaint I have about Childress is that he chooses to win the game with Frerotte than Peterson. Most of Peterson’s running plays come on 2 and 10 or 3 and 10, after incompletions.
Even Brian Billick realized to coach to his personel, a great defense and running game. It won him a superbowl.
Brad Childress, I just don’t understand the way you call games. You have a physical offensive line, tight end and an awesome running back. So why are you trying to west coast yourself to a win?
