Said Jets QB Brett Favre, “It wasn’t our best performance on offense, but it was a win. We did some good things. … Thomas Jones, he had one of those days.”
For Jones, “one of those days” meant scoring three touchdowns.
Jets coach Eric Mangini says he’s not concerned about Favre throwing into tight coverage.
Bengals WR Chad Ocho Cinco extended his streak of consecutive games with a catch to 98.
Jets WR Laveranues Coles told reporters not to get too close to him after the game because he was suffering from a cold.
The Jets are doing a much better job of sacking the quarterback than they did last year.
Said Bengals offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski, “Obviously, right now, we’re pretty much inept.”
The offense is keeping the Bengals from winning games, while the defense is keeping the Bengals in games.
Bengals coach Marvin Lewis says he needs to take a hard look at his running backs.
The Bengals are averaging 72.1 yards rushing a game, which would be the worst in the franchise’s 41 seasons.

The problem with the Bengals is that they have perhaps the worst O-line in the NFL. They can’t run block and cannot pass protect.
The key position is center, Eric Ghiaciuc. He makes wrong play calls, so defense gets through, he gets pushed back on pass and running plays, often getting beat or totally whiffing on blocks. If you watch him, he will either end up on the ground or out into the linebacker area not blocking anyone.
Ghiacuic has been a problem since Rich Braham went down and was forced to retire mid-season two years ago. Management has hoped to let him grow into the role, but he is not progressing. They let a decent center (Stepanovich) go during the off-season and didn’t replace him, so they only have one backup, a practice squad caliber (Kyle Cook).
Left tackle Levi Jones is proving he doesn’t want to play in Cincinnati. He came into the season without being completely healthy. His knees are shot and he needs to retire. He has to have injections before each game to play. He is getting regularly beaten to the outside and is not doing an effective job run blocking. He is a shell of the player he was two years ago.
RT Stacy Andrews is another error in judgement by Bengals management. They took a risk on a guy with no football experience and a phenominal athletic build and hoped to train him to be an NFL lineman. He wasn’t ready to take a starting role, and he wants out of Cincy, so the Bengals Franchise Tagged him. So between attitude and lack of experience, he was a turnstile in pre-season and the first couple of games. His recent pass protection has improved, but he still does not run block well.
Guard has been the most solid position. LG Andrew Whitworth has had as reasonable a season as can be expected, given he has to cover for center and LT Jones. RG Bobby Williams has also done a respectable job.
There is no chemistry between linemen. What chemistry that existed was destroyed when Mike Brown cut Willie Anderson just before the season.
The Bengals must address center and at least one tackle in the draft or Free agency and really needs two of each for depth, if they want to compete next year.
The only solution this season is to move Bobby Williams to center and put Koostra at RG, but they won’t do that. So the Bengals Offense will continue to languish at the bottom of the league.

Slappy is right.
The ultimate problem with the Bengals is lack of accountability. The front office rakes in money, so there is no down side to their poor management decisions. Mike Brown won’t hold the head coach accountable, for fear of having to pay for a fired head coach to the tune of 7 to 10 million dollars. The head coach has only held the defensive coordinator position accountable at the end of season - used as a scape goat to take heat off the head coach. The position coaches are not held accountable. And finally, the players are not held accountable.
Biggest example is Chris Perry. His fumbles have lost two games this season, so what does Marvin do? He starts him week after week.
In the Forest Greg era, Forest would pull out of the game a player that messed up right after the play and sit him for a series or two and let him think about what he did. Problem quickly went away. Marvin just pats them on the back and tells them that they will do better next time and puts them right back in.

I agree, the O-line and Brat are the biggest reasons this team has struggled. Unfortunately, I don’t see many better options mid-season. For next season, I say move Whit to LT and see what this Collins kid is made of at LG or RT. Hell, draft the best O-lineman with our destined-to-be #2 or #3 pick.
Brat needs to get really inventive with his playcalling (hey, look at the Phins!) b/c the mere REP of the ‘05-’06 deep ball isn’t getting us anywhere anymore. If he can’t mixup some plays and start getting respectable numbers, I can’t see ANY reason to consider keeping him on for next year…
It’s sad too, b/c the D is playing mid-pack level defense (good for the Bengals!) and seems to be back to getting some turnovers….and it’s all been a waste.
