Redskins running back Clinton Portis, who is always ready to deliver an entertaining sound bite, ranked the quarterbacks of the NFC East during Tuesday’s edition of The Dan Patrick Show.
Portis placed Giants quarterback Eli Manning at the top, given that he is the reigning Super Bowl champ.
Next came Tony Romo of the Cowboys, because he’s the leader of a winning team.
Then came Donovan McNabb of the Eagles, because the team is always good under his leadership.
And finally Portis included his own quarterback, Jason Campbell. Portis explained that, like the Redskins, Campbell is “flying under radar” and to just “pay him no mind.”
It was classic Clinton Portis. But if T.O. had pulled a stunt like this, the crawl on ESPN would be proclaiming for the next 48 hours that “Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens rates Tony Romo fourth among all NFC East quarterbacks. And also peed in his coffee.”

I don’t think CP is wrong in his rankings, even if he was being 100% serious. The NFC East has really good QB’s right now.

Nice to compair Portis to Owens. Last time I checked he have never destroyed any teams or been accused of being a bad teammate. Owens is working on destroying his third team and he IS a bad teammate.

That’s because TO has sold two Pro Bowl quarterbacks down the river. CP has actually been outspoken in his support for Campbell, even when the latter has stunk it up.

If TO rated Romo the 4th best quarterback, it would be patently false. That’s why there would be publicity. If TO were on the Redskins and rated Campbell 4th, it would be no big deal.

3 of the teams have smart QBs who can manage a game. One of them does not. Check the standings and draw your own conclusions.

He was just saying that his guys are preferred underdogs so they can play the “no respect” card. I definitely don’t think he meant to slight Campbell in the least.
I agree that if TO did it and the Cowboys were in the same situation, (i.e., weren’t expected to do well), HE would get lambasted, but considering his past, he wouldn’t deserve the benefit of the doubt.

Hard to disagree with Portis’ rankings really. If anything he uses the “flying under the radar” thing to get out of a potentially awkward situation, in as much as he ranked Campbell last.
It doesn’t matter what TO says about anything, whether good or bad, ESPN are always all over it. Mike Florio isn’t much better.

Is Campbell fourth in the NFC? Maybe. But he’s still one of the top ten in the league. The NFC East is just that solid right now. He’s a very good QB- some of the throws he’s put on so far this season have been mind-blowingly good.

Portis’ agenda is to keep the Redskins off the radar. If you read his post carefully, Florio, you’ll get the message Portis is sending. His statement proves the Redskins aren’t drinking the Kool-Aid flowing so regularly at Valley Ranch.

I’m an Eagles fan, but I actually think Campbell is just as good as anyone in the NFL right now. The kid keeps getting better, eliminating mistakes, and he really seems like he’s getting comfortable with his position. If I were starting a team from scratch and had to pick one of the four starting QB’s in the NFC East, I would take Jason Campbell over all of them. Size, speed, accuracy, tight spiral, extrememly strong arm, and his command on the field is the one thing I noticed that he’s improved most on.

Are you kidding me??? If TO said Romo was the 4th best, of course there would be an uproar. Why? Because Romo clearly isn’t the 4th best in the division. Reason why it’s no big deal for Portis to say it about Campbell is because everyone knows he is obviously the 4th best QB in the division. Portis isn’t putting his QB down, he’s telling it like it is. Campbell has a long way to go to prove he’s better than Manning, Romo and McNabb. The TO comparison is a joke!

kjohnso, I don’t think you can say Campbell has to go a long way to prove anything. And I don’t think he is obviously the fourth best QB. He doesn’t put up gaudy numbers because this team is not built that way. Stats aren’t the only measure of a QB.
