The Patriots ran 80 offensive plays; the 49ers ran 48.
The 49ers had just six plays in the third quarter, including a punt.
Patriots WR Randy Moss was glad to connect on the deep ball again.
Said Patriots CB Ellis Hobbs, “I think this gets us back on track. I think all of us individually, we hadn’t lost confidence in ourselves, but we took a good punch to the face when we played Miami.”
Matt Cassel had 259 passing yards, his most in a game to date.
Patriots LB Tedy Bruschi called the game a “true linebacker victory.”
The 49ers’ defense looked toothless.
Said 49ers RB Frank Gore, “We went out there today flat. We have to go out there and fit together and play hard.”
Said 49ers coach Mike Nolan, “It gets down to staying on the field offensively on third down and getting off on defense, and a lot of other things, but it’s never one area.”
The loudest cheer of the day came at halftime, when Steve Young’s jersey was retired.

Great game. I loved my time in San Francisco. Just got back. I was a little surprised at how poorly SOME of the 49er fans acted. I just wasn’t expecting it. Someone who was talking crap three rows back all game actually challenged me to name five players not named Tom Brady. I mean really. Are we that bitter out there? There were a lot of really great people I met while there, but I just wasn’t expecting the level of assholes there would be. I have never, EVER seen anything like it in my times at Gillette. I went to Jacksonville and no one ever said a word to me the entire game in a negative fashion. I got challenged to a fight at least 10 times just trying to find my seats. I felt the need to share this, because quite frankly, east coast fans get a lot of crap, and while I realize these people are only a bridge away from being Raider fans, I just thought they would be laid back and all about a good time. NOPE. I expected people to be playful and try to joke around about the game and what was happening… but man, what a let down. And it’s unfortunate. I saw a lot of people waste their money getting kicked out because they had to be idiots and couldn’t just have a good time. Meanwhile, every Patriots fan I was around stood up and cheered Steve Young at halftime. Whatev…

I hear you man. I live in Indiana and I’m a Pats fan. Years ago there was no problem. I have friends that are Colt fans, again no problem. Sence they have won a SB, things have changed. I don’t dare put my Pats licence plate cover on my car. I consistantly hear shit just going to the store or out in public when wearing my Pats hat (or every day). I don’t mind when my freinds say something here or there. But these fair weather assholes I can’t stand. I keep waiting for the Pacers to be good again so these fair weather f*cks will go away. My hat is off to real Colt fans that sufferd threw the 3-13 seasons. The Jonny come latelys I can do with out. They haven’t earned the right to talk smack if they are only going to be fans while they are winning.
