Only days after conceding that linebacker E.J. Henderson will miss a month with two dislocated toes, it turns out that Henderson will be out even longer.
Per the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Henderson has been placed on injured reserve, ending his season.
The move creates a roster spot for left tackle Bryant McKinnie, who was suspended the first four games of the season for violating the league’s personal conduct policy.
Henderson became a force for the Vikings once the team adopted the Cover 2 defense in 2006. Signed through 2011, he’ll earn $2.5 million in base salary this year.

I expect the run defense to take a big step backwards. As much as I hate the vikings,EJ is/was a freakin stud when it came to stopping the run… Mark my words tonight. Shot gun, no huddle, duece will score, saints will win. Pat williams has heart attack

I was thinking about a week or so ago that the one guy the Vikings couldn’t lose this year was EJ. He was playing MLB like a mad man, and I worried he was risking injury the way he was sacrificing his body (ironically, it was a pretty routine play that ended his season). Besides MLB being perhaps the most valuable position in this defense, it was the one position that had the largest drop off in talent from the starter to the back-up.
Now I wonder if David Herron (the starter for now) is the replacement for the season, or if either Ben Leber or Chad Greeway moves to the middle, or if they re-sign Dontarrious Thomas, who was EJ’s back-up the past few years before signing as a FA with San Fran (where we was released in final cut downs). He was effective, but unspectacular, in this defense when he had the chance to play.
Personally, I’d like Erin to be big brother’s clone and step in and play just like EJ. But that’s unrealistic for an undrafted rookie.

God help us. Dontarrious Thomas??? Isn’t he out on bail? McKinnie? Isn’t he out on bail? When does Madieu Williams come back? I agree the run defense just took a step backward. Hope Gus can get the ball downfield tonight and pressure the Ain’ts secondary. I want to see Mike McKenzie get burned by Sidney or Bernard. Man, do our wideouts have cool names or what?

Losing EJ is such a huge blow to the Defense. Wouldn’t be too bad except the offense is terrible so the D needs to be out tehre and scoring for any chance of a “W”. Less likely with EJ out.

as a Viking fan this news still cannot stop me from laughing about the vision of Sage Rosenfelds flying through the air rotating like a tornado and dropping to the ground like a ton of bricks… that was the funniest thing I’ve ever seen… EJ, I love ya, hope you get better soon… but man, Sage Rosenfelds… that highlight is funnier than any Apatow movie, Mel Brooks satire, Will Ferrell Skit… that thing was just AWESOME!!!!
