In a week that saw Jets safety Eric Smith lose a game and $50,000 and Carolina defensive end Julius Peppers cough up $10,000 (which is like a parking ticket, given his cap number) for using their helmets as something other than protection for their own noggins, three more fines were meted out to defensive players.
Per Adam Schefter of NFL Network, Saints safety Kevin Caseofyarn (it’s a helluvalot easier to spell) was fined $25,000 for helmet-to-helmet contact.
Schefter also reports that Raiders defensive end Kalimba Edwards was fined $7,500 for applying a horse-collar tackle to Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers.
Finally, Schefter says that Chiefs defensive end Turk McBride will pay $5,000 for roughing the passer.

This is all ridiculous. I am a collegiate football player and have played football my entire life and I am very disappointed at the new rules and how they are being enforced.
Yes their is such a thing as a dirty hit but 98% of hard hits are just that, hard hits. Football is a dangerous game and every player is aware of this for before he puts on pads. No one enjoys seeing players get hurt but football is more than a contact sport, it is a collision sport and players WILL get injured.
Injury is actually more likely to happen when you tell a player he must change his game, he must slow down, he can’t hit as hard…etc Football players love the game for the contact. I bet if you ask the players who were on the receiving end of the hit they wouldn’t have as strong of a position against it as the commissioner does. Football is a fast pace, hard hitting, dangerous game, meant for the athletic and the somewhat insane. Let the players play.

…and also, Roy Williams of the Dallas Cowboys was fined $1000 for a legal tackle, but he had a mean look on his face.

What’s next? Gonna make it against the rules to pull a guy down by the back of his jersey collar but you can use his hair? Oh wait…

The Peppers fine was just a hand slap so they didn’t have to admit that Ed blew another call.

the defensively favored rule changes this off-season are being dealt with by fining anyone and everyone who makes a tackle. Who ever has the most tackles at the end of this year, will have the most fines.

Wait a minute…Kalimba Edwards HIT A QB? I am shocked!
I’m a Lions fan (stop laughing) and that was something he could never do for us, so I am not so sure that fining him for finally hitting a QB is going to make him continue doing it.

helmet to helmet is one thing, but all of these stupid rules….
Mark Cuban should start another league to rival the NFL: the UFFL, United Flag Football League. That way all the stupid whiny wusses can watch the UFFL in between commercials so they dont get bored!

Funny to listen to people whine about this stuff. Funny really funny. You know why? Because these rules exist due to people like you whining. Yup.
Specifically… most of these rules were put in place because Oakland was kicking everybody’s azz.
Jack Tatum once said… “I play within the rules of the game… if you don’t like the rules then change them.”
And so it is…. and the whining goes on.
