The uncertain status of former Raiders coach Lane Kiffin wasn’t good for the Raiders.  At a minimum, the fact that Kiffin has moved on will allow the team to move forward.

But there’s a catch.  As a result of Tuesday’s press conference, during which Raiders owner Al Davis gave chapter-and-verse detail regarding his case for firing Kiffin for cause, the franchise’s young franchise quarterback has learned for the first time that the only NFL head coach for whom he has played didn’t want to draft him.

I can’t win with this guy,” Kiffin supposedly told Davis, who said that Kiffin thought Russell would be the “overweight guy” and the “uninterested guy.”

It just kind of came out of nowhere,” quarterback JaMarcus Russell said Thursday. “I really don’t think myself or coach Kiffin or anybody else were looking for that to come out that way.”

Russell said that he thought he had a strong relationship with Kiffin, and that they would joke and exchange text messages.  Now, Russell isn’t sure who to believe.

If he ends up believing Kiffin and not the organization, the Raiders might end up wishing they’d listened to Kiffin in the first place.
