We’ve already mentioned that Titans defensive end Albert Haynesworth has won the AFC’s defensive player of the month award for September 2008. Here are the other winners.
In the AFC, Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler is the offensive player of the month. He’s the first Bronco to win the prize since quarterback Brian Griese in September 2001.
Also, Chargers return specialist Darren Sproles is the AFC’s special teams player of the month. He gained 453 yards on 14 returns, including one touchdown.
For the NFC, Saints quarterback Drew Brees is the offensive player of the month. The last Saint so honored was running back Deuce McAllister in October 2002.
Charles Woodson of the Packers is the NFC’s defensive player of the month. He has three interceptions, including two that were returned for scores.
Eagles punter Sav Rocca is the special teams player of the month for the NFC. (And every time we think of Sav Rocca we think of this moment.)
For each man, it’s the first player of the month award of their career. So congratulations.

Gotta give some credit to Woodson not just for the three picks and two TDs, but he held TO to two catches in the Dallas game, and he’s been doing it all with a broken toe that causes him to miss practice all week.

I look at that Rocca moment and think that it looks an awful lot like Boldin (well except that Rocca is tougher).

Haynesworth is a defensive tackle as noted in the story directly below this one. In this story he is called a defensive end.

Should have been a helmet to helmet flag on that one but Sav popped right up. One tough Aussie right there. Congrats to Rocca. He deserves the recognition.

That’s 2 Packer players that have won defensive player of the month consecutively.
Atari Bigby won the award last December of the regular season, now Charles Woodson gets it for September.

This is incomplete reporting! What did Cutler say about Sproles? Did Brees backstab Woodson? Did any of them have a press conference airing out their dirty laundry?
You’re slipping, Florio.

Drew Brees is playing at a Hall of Fame level this season. He’s the man.

My sources tell me that the Bronc’s tried to get Brees but when he hurt his elbow the last game of the year and Jeff Fisher gave Cutler rave reviews to Shanny, the decision was made. Brees is a man and a great QB. Cutler needs post season success.

I wish the video of the hit on Sav would have extended for another 30 seconds or so. As I recall, after he popped up from that hit, he had a HUGE smile on his face - those Aussies love a good hit

@rmizzzac
He kind of took his team to the 2006 NFC Championship after a 3-13 season. I’m not saying that’s a lot of post season success, but he does have some.

cutler isn’t even the best qb in the afc west, according to stats after week 4
it’s obvious the voting was done before the week 4 games, and cutler still wasn’t the best qb after week 3 ….weird
