The 4-0 Buffalo Bills have taken steps to ensure that one of their key pieces will be around for a while.
Per Adam Schefter of NFL Network, the Bills have signed receiver Lee Evans to a four-year, $37.5 million extension.
The deal includes $18.25 million in guaranteed money, and he will earn $27 million over the first three years of the deal.
The $9 million average for three seasons puts him in the upper range of the receiver pay grade. Larry Fitzgerald of the Cardinals leads the way with his four-year, $40 million deal.

Congrats Lee. For us Bills fans its nice to see the organization stepping up and paying for their young guys. Lee handled this whole situation with class and deserves what he got!

@Johnsonburg
overreaction? Lee Evans has been one of the top 15 receivers in the league since he entered even with the horrific offenses that Buffalo has employeed over the last 5 years, with changes in offenses and quarterbacks.
Oh and he’s probably one of the top 5 deep threats in the league as well.
you sir, are an idiot.

Great news. He is Buffalo’s all time leader in receiving yards and TDs this far into their careers. Glad to see we got him locked down. Now when Hardy develops we will have a great reciever tandem.

That’s a good deal for Evans. If anyone thinks he’s overpaid, this is nothing. A lot of WR’s will start to get overpaid due Bernard Berrian’s massive deal with the Vikes. Not a rag on Berrian, but he didn’t do enough this early in his career do get that deal.

This is a great move for Buffalo. Evans is–after 4 NFL seasons–a pretty good distance ahead of the pace that Andre Reed enjoyed in Buffalo en route to amassing over 950 catches in his career. He is also in the top 5 in the NFL in yards per catch since his rookie season. That should be more than enough to justify the numbers.

Ha, did someone just say Lee Evans is top 5 in the league? They overpaid, but whatever. They aren’t the first.

TO, Moss, Wayne, should i go on, plax, steve smith (car), fitz, boldin, chad, housh, brandon marshall, s.moss, colston, galloway, jk about joey, buff did a good job of lockin up a player they drafted and had to have to continue to move in the right direction but, the 9 mil club should be reservered for future HOF’s like TO and moss, they overpaid a lil, i doubt he plays the 4th year without restructering the final year

Great deal for Evans and the Bills.
For those of you unfamiliar with Evans, he’s a top ten nfl wide reciever who has flown under the radar the last few years because of the Bills lackluster offense. The Bills might have slightly overpayed but it was worth it not only for the talent this guy has, but also for the tremendous character and leadership he brings to the locker room. Evans is basically steve smith of the panthers without the trash talking. Especially in today’s game with all the wide reciever divas in the league, Evans was deserving of this contract. He also happens to be second in the AFC in recieving yards next to Denver’s Brandon Marshall, and has a good shot to make the pro bowl this year and for many to come.

I would say Evans is a top 10 reciever in this league. Let’s keep in mind that he is 26 and just entering the prime of his career. He also has a good chance of making the pro bowl this year and ranks second in the AFC in recieving yards next to Denver’s Brandon Marshall. The guy is a talented player and does not have the ego that a lot of the today’s wide reciever divas have in modern day nfl. Evans got what he deserved. They may have overpayed a little bit, but at the rate contracts are going up in the nfl, in two years 9million anually will seem like chump change to a wideout.

First off none of you can read. He said top 5 deep threat not WR. He’s not talking all around WR he’s saying as a deep threat he’s among the best in the league and that is perfectly reasonable. He said top 15 WR again learn how to read because that is reasonable.
As for this over payed BS. Stop it. The contracts are going up all the time and with the recent huge cap jump you really need to rethink the scale here. You’re going to tell the players and agents that unless you’re considered a future HOFer you can’t get 9 mil as a WR. Is Fitz considered a future HOF at this point? What about Walker in Oakland? Berrian for the Vikings? Fitz is actually the only one of them that is any good but at this point I don’t know if I would proclaim him a future HOF.

Overreaction to a hot start? u moron they have been working on this since the end of last season lol.
also to the rest of you uneducated morons….Just becuase you dont see Lee all over espn running his mouth, do NOT sell him short. He IS an elite reciever. This is the going rate for elite recievers, get over it. This is the market value. Four games into his fifth season….4,059 yards receiving, 30 career touchdowns receiving. Pretty impressive if you ask me. Look at the horrible QB’s hes had and this guy is still putting up numbers. He is a high character guy and comes to work every Sunday with his lunch bucket in hand. If anyone deserves this kind of $$$ it is him.

All the haters keep talking. The Buffalo Bills are THE story of the NFL season so far and we are the 2nd youngest team in the league, so for all the haters you better get used to seeing the Bills near the top. Esp since the Pats are old as dirt and the Jets are the Jets, so get ready for another long run for the Bills as much as Florio might hate it.
After our 1st win, Florio told me in an online chat that we would lose at Jacksonville and not be any good like in 03 when we started hot and then folded. Guess what buddy, your wrong and this certainly isnt the first or last time.
Go Bills!!

no way does he deserve this deal. hes getting paid as much as moss and TO. do you think NE or dallas will trade either of their star $9mil receivers straight up for lee evans even with evans being years younger…i doubt it. hes a good WR but i wouldnt consider him upper echelon no matter how badly you try to spin it. the upper echelon and $9mil receivers are reserved for CONSISTENCY at a HIGH LEVEL. guys like TO, moss, wayne, harrison (until last year), smith, 85 and so on. evans doesnt belong on that list

Buffalo fans calling me an idiot, thats the pot calling the kettle black. Hopefully playing in Buffalo and Wisconsin prepares him for life in Toronto. Last year he was #32 in the league Rec. yards and #33 in Avg yds per recetion. The year before he was #6 in yards and #38 in yds per reception. Soo yes for what the paid him its an overaction. Good for Lee Evans though that will buy him a lot of draft beer at Dave and Busters. Hopefully he dosent get sick of AppleBees and all your fat women there. Buffalo fans are idiots. As bad as Philly fans to fans visiting from the opposing team. I still rememeber a few years back all you had to do was beat the Steelers 2nd team on the day after New Years to make the playoffs and you choked. That was hilarious. So Buffalo fans go back to your Applebees and fat chicks, and enjoy Marshawn the next 3 years before he bolts too, because you my friends are the idiots

^ Is that Willis McGahee talking? What an a-hole. With all those stats you just mentioned, keep in mind that they came with quite possibly the worst offense in the game, Evans being the only good part. Now that the running game is decent and the blocking is good, hopefully Evans will silence you critics who assume that because a player doesnt cry like a bitch every time his team loses or draw attention to himself in some disrespectful manner that he should not be payed as much as those who do. Anybody who listens to the local media coverage of the Bills knows this guy is worth the cash he got, so please just stop talking about it and let the Buffalo fans be happy about it. He may not be a TO, Moss or Ocho Sucko, and if he was then you’d be right- he wouldnt be worth 9 mil a year. But he’s a leader and a good guy.
PS. Buddy this is America, all the women are fat, not just Buffalos.

You obviously do not have the intellectual ability to argue against any of the points made against you because you can only come up with generalizations and personal attacks against people who, at least in my case, are from no where near Buffalo. That’s what people of your intelligence do when they cannot form an argument; throw insults at them in hopes that no one makes you rationalize your thinking. Thank you for making the rest of us look much better than yourself.
If you wanted to make an argument you could at least determine what factors may have led to the stats that you cited. Run oriented offenses for his entire tenure, constant flux at the quarterback position, many different offensive coordinators, etc. But yes just evaluate his contract on 2 years of his performance, which were still pretty good.

When the Bills let players walk, they don’t value continuity or Ralph is too cheap. When they sign or extend a player, they overpay.
All I know is it’s got the team 4-0 right now, and that’s good by me.
I also enjoy the dynamic–Lee Evans shows up for work all summer long and is having a great year and now got his paycheck. Jason Peters was MIA and is struggling and hasn’t gotten paid yet. I like Peters a lot, so I just hope this puts things in perspective for him and he is able to turn his season around and get locked up with the Bills, as well.

Are you seriously going to argue that if he hit the free agent market with a 1000 yrd year under his belt, at his age, and with the otherwise anemic offenses he’s been a part of he wouldn’t get that much? You’re kidding right. The cap is changing. What was market value a few years ago is out the window any young guy that hits the market is going to get over paid if based on numbers from a year or two ago. How is this hard to grasp?
The fact is he’s their top WR. They are an exceedingly young team that is playing quite well at the moment suggesting that they should be around for years to come. This means they need to keep the young talent they have.
You keep bringing up Moss and TO. You honestly believe if they weren’t a few years younger their contract wouldn’t be higher? Look at Fitz. He hasn’t proven as much as those two but he’s the highest paid WR. Why? Because he’s younger and his contract came up at the right time. Look at the others paid in that range (I would say likely Walker and Berrian are good examples) and tell me Evans is over paid.
