Titans quarterback Chris Simms said on Tuesday’s Dan Patrick Show that former starter Vince Young could be returning to practice this week.
Young suffered a hamstring strain and a sprained MCL during a Week One win over Jacksonville. The knee injury occurred after Young returned to action after reportedly trying to remove himself from the game after supposedly hurting the hamstring.
But even if Young is able to play right now, it’s highly unlikely that coach Jeff Fisher will risk screwing up a very good thing by removing Kerry Collins and re-inserting Young. But for an injury to Collins, Young simply shouldn’t see the field again this year.
Then, after the 2008 season, the Titans will have to decide whether to keep Young, trade him, cut him, or let him retire without owing any of his bonus money back to the team.
Meanwhile, Peter King of SI.com mentioned in his MMQB column that Young is rebuffing efforts by Collins to mentor him: “What a waste,” King writes. “Collins has seen too much, and he’s a selfless person at this stage of his career. Whoever’s advising Young should tell him Collins would be a smart addition to his inner circle.”
For as good as the Titans now are, just imagine how good they’d be if they had poked around their own backyard and drafted the humble kid from Vanderbilt instead of the superstar from Texas.

If the Titans had drafted Cutler, they’d be Super Bowl favorites. But Bud Adams wanted to stick it to Houston and ignored Chan Gailey (and probably others) and drafted Young, who Merrill Hodge accurately appraised before the draft.
At least they got this year’s first round pick right…

Gee Florio, so you’re wondering if Fisher is going to put VY back in?
Sources close to the situation (Fisher per article in The Tennessean 2 weeks ago) say that Collins will finish the year if healthy.
Thanks for some more great journalism!

Collins won’t tell Young that he’s perfect, and everything that ever goes wrong is someone else’s fault; ergo, Young isn’t interested in hearing what Collins has to say. Too bad, I think Collins can tell him exactly what he needs to hear to keep his carreer alive.

Vinnie gets to watch the game from downstairs now. It is unknown if his mom will be joining him on the sidelines, but Campell’s soup has offered her a contract.

Whose to say Cutler would’ve been as good if he was drafted by Tennessee? Seems to me Shannahan knows how to teach qb’s better then most coaches. There have been lots of strong armed qb’s come out of the draft that have busted. For instance, Kyle Boller

If I remember correctly, the scuttlebutt around draft time in 2006 was that Reese wanted Young, Chow wanted Leinart, Fisher wanted Cutler, and Adams made an executive decision. Badly. Certainly after the draft Shanahan was quoted as saying that he traded up for Cutler largely on Fisher’s recommendation, as the Broncos didn’t scout him extensively, thinking he couldn’t possibly fall to them.

Cut it out, Florio. You sound like Cris Carter. I remember you said Vince would be a modern Fran Tarkenton. Nobody was questioning the pick after he won Rookie of the Year and became the only rookie Pro Bowl quarterback as McNair’s alternate. Hindsight is 20/20.

Why wouldn’t they get any bonus money back. Just throw him in a game and wait til he won’t go back in after getting booed, then go after the money.

Vince won’t let Collins into his inner circle… Kerry probably just doesn’t look good with his shirt off.

To this day I will never understand why they drafted Young, especially when you consider that:
1) They had just hired the OC from USC.
2) Matt Leinart who would have been taken #1 overall the prior year, was available and he would have known the offense from day 1.
3) In the 2nd they took USC back Lendale White. Maybe he would have gotten in shape because he wouldnt have had to learn the new playbook (although this is highly doubtful).
Of course today you can say that Leinart may not end up being any better than Young, and its a valid point. But when the decision was made it really didnt make any sense.

It turns out that Wonderlic test was right. Vince Young has the physical ability to be a star, but lacks the judgment.

Did any of you watch the Rose Bowl? Whoever made the final call on Young sure did. Does anybody remember when he won Offensive rookie of the year? Even in his “regression” last year he had a Titan team in the playoffs. He’s having a tough time and dealing with alot in his life right now. A year to watch from the sidelines will be good for him. Then he can make a decision on what’s best for him and his life. What’s with the Titan haters on this site today? 4-0 got a few of you worried. I’m sorry whoever your team is sucks and if it really makes you feel better to bash a QB who is not even playing and a team that is better than yours then go ahead. 4-0 baby.

Please shut up about “VY” winning offensive rookie of the year. He wasn’t very good as a rookie, either. Titans fans knew it all along but second guessed themselves because the “experts” on the tv said that he is an unstoppable dual threat qb that makes it such a headache for defenses to gameplan for. Check the numbers on “VY” and you’ll see that the hype was “BS” and that the stats mirror “KS.”

Young did say on his 60 Minutes appearance that, “Can’t nobody tell me nothing.” I assume that goes especially for old white guys.

I agree with “hesawinner”. I never really saw him as a good QB, but I saw him as possibily being a game manager that occasionally could make plays with his legs.
If he were playing AND running like he was his rookie season there’s no way the Titans dont go to the SB. But instead he got all messed up in the head and will likely be a punchline for the rest of his existence.

Look folks. Even win Young won the rookie of the year award he stunk. He was great in college but was never and will never be a decent NFL QB. He won rookie of the year based on hype and running ability. Just like Vick before him, the NFL seems to want a “non convintional QB. A scrambler. It seems to attract a new type of fan. Generally the younger crowd that doesn’t watch games as much as they do Sport Center.
