Last night’s 23-20, come-from-behind win by the Pittsburgh Steelers over the Baltimore Ravens has proven to be costly for the home team.
The Steelers have lost rookie running back Rashard Mendenhall and veteran guard Kendall Simmons for the season.
Mendenhall suffered a broken shoulder blade, and Simmons sustained a ruptured Achilles tendon.
“That is football,” coach Mike Tomlin said after the game, “what we will do is put some men out there and the standard of expectation will not change. We have to go to Jacksonville and we have a short week; such is life in the National Football League.”
Mewelde Moore did a decent job for the Steelers after Mendenhall and Carey Davis left the game with injuries. Though Moore had only eight carries for 13 yards, he caught three passes for 37, including a reception and run that helped put the Steelers in position to kick the game-winning field goal.
Mendenhall finished with nine carries for 30 yards and one catch for six.

Yo Florio
1. Is Shaun Alexander willing to take a league minimum?
2. Would that put the Steelers over the cap limit?

I think anyone that watched the game knows the better team did not win last night. Hines Ward again proved he’s the dirtiest player in the league. The Steelers have fallen a long way down when they resort to cheapshots from a punk like Ward to gain yards on penalties. The Ravens may have lost the battle but there’s no doubt they won the war. We win this game in Baltimore by two TDs. That is if the Steelers have enough players to field a team. Your season officially ended last night. I guess MendenFALL won’t be texting any more smack. Ray and Bart shattered his shoulder. Not so tough.

i’ll take some injuries just to get a big win over the stinking rat-birds any day. as always, the steelers will be fine. however we did learn that the rat-birds are pretenders. a bunch of washed up has beens and never was. and good luck with that stiff you got at qb. maybe one day your sorry team will find a qb that can win a tough game instead of fold like paper doll. course if silverback harrison was making lunch meat outta me like he did flacid flaco, i wouldn’t expect much better. come on rat-bird scum, let’s hear about how great your team of losers are. where’s ray ray? where’s barf scott? oh, yeah, still being scrapped off the turf. and as i predicted, hines ward is still smiling. baltimore, nothing but the same old stinking, loosing brownies. always good to beat the brownies.

That’s a shame, Mendenhall showed a little more burst than I thought he had. Stapleton looked fine taking over for Simmons.
I haven’t seen Ray Lewis play like he did last night for awhile. That goal line play where he got under Keomatu was text book and he was the guy that put out both Mendenhall and Davis. I’ll never be a fan but I certainly respect what you did last night.
It seems the Ravens offense kept getting us right where they wanted us last night, 3rd and long. I cannot believe the 3rd and 8’s and over that we could not stop and get off the field. Mason (who I think really is Charlie Murphy) had a nice game, but how do the Steelers keep letting him open when he’s the only one Flacco will throw to?

I didn’t think it was humanly possible but I think Ron Jaworski said “Joe Flacco” more in one game than John Madden says “Brett Farve”.

The game was a real slugfest. Good game by the Ravens. Flacco looks to be the real deal and McLain reminds me of the Bus.
Of course, I am glad that the Steelers pulled it out in the end. I hope my Steelers can field a team next week. I do not think that the Steelers will go after Shaun Alexander, no cap room. I suspect that Gary Russell (if available) will be back and promoting an O-Lineman from the practice squad to the active roster to fill Simmons spot.

Is it me, or is Ron Jaworski in love with Flacco? I mean, who (other than the people in Baltimore) want to listen to a guy speak so dramatically about any player, let alone Flacco.
I had to turn the volume down. I thought it was interesting after the game when Steve Young ripped on Flacco. Who is right, Steve Young or Jaws?
Seriously, Jaws should be terminated after that performance. I am still livid.

Pretty classless post, Mr. Football. Gloating about a player getting their “shoulder shattered” was a nice touch. I didn’t think anyone could out-classless some of the Steelers fans that post here, but you managed to. I’ll never understand how watching a game can bring out such ugly thoughts in some people.

Florio sorry I missed the live blog last night. As I watched this game it really occurred to me how useless offsetting personal foul penalties are. Should the league fine players $$$ for each personal foul or unnecessary roughness penalty and give the money to a charity?

flacco’s whole body must be black and blue this morning, but the most painful part of his body must be his butt hole after jaws kept penetrating it time after time last night. what a douche. i’m sure by now jaws has already asked flacco to have his children and spend the rest of their lives together.
and mr. football, maybe us steeler fans will be lucky enough one day to have a tough, manly running back like mcgahee. that dude was CRYING, he was hit so hard, so often. “but coach, they hit me in my tummy, and it hurts! can i ride off the field on a cart?” what a wuss. must be that tough trainning they do in baltimore. now shut it and take your loss like a bitch. you’ll get another shot later this year,… if you want it.

See, a lesson for you in taking injuries like men — unlike the Ravens and their fans, crying over having a couple guys out with boo-boos in that Monday Night game last year. Wonder what Ray-Ray will have to say, after his “number one” defense got marched on when it counted most?
By the way, nice punch thrown like a sneaky little girl at Ward’s stomach — where was the flag on the Ravens for that? Yeah keep crying about the refs, little Baltimore girls. Waaahhh!
Oh and where’s PARavensJeff dude, or whatever his name is, who guaranteed that victory before the game?

I don’t wish injury on anyone and hope Mendenhall can get back on the field sometime. I just wanted to point out that he got beat down and shouldn’t talk smack before he’s proven anything on the field.
Any Steeler fan that has a good feeling after last nights game is kidding themselves. You may have won the battle but you lost the war with that performance. You lost another O-lineman off what was already a terrible line and you lost your 1st round draft pick running back. Willy Parker may be out for a while. Honest Steeler fans that I’ve spoken to this morning say that Flacco reminded them of Big Ben as a rookie. The Ravens win by 2 TDs in Baltimore and are clearly the division favorites now.

The network people go into games with about 4 preplanned talking points which they hit on before the game starts. From the Baltimore it was Flacco and Ed Reed.
Jaws got completely stuck on Flacco to the point it was embarassing. He threw that little dump pass to that big running back, who made some really nice moves, and all Jaws did was rave about the pass. He also said the ONLY weakness in Flacco’s game was reading inside defense. Please. The guy looks like a nice QB, but let him plsy a few years before putting him in the HOF. He has 1 TD pass to date.
The game was about all I expected….Close and hard hitting. Mendenhall might have learned the hard way that he needs to keep his pads low. He runs way too upright to stay healthy.

Ummm, 23-20. I think that’s pretty clear.
Clear as mud. Squealer fans were predicting a blowout. You guys were dominated by the Ravens for 55 minutes. We have a rookie QB that will continue to improve. A rookie QB that outplayed Big Ben for most of the game in Pittsburgh on MNF. You can fiegn confidence but in your heart you know the Ravens are the better team and positioned to win the Division. When you need a gift 15 yd penalty to win a game at home against a rookie QB the season is lost. Add your mounting injury list and the only thing that’s clear is that Pittsburgh is on the decline. Enjoy the gift from last night because there are some dark times ahead for the city of Pittsburgh.

Mr. Football, and the rest of the world for that matter:
You saw a team get beaten up physically. You saw a bad offensive line get worse when Simmons (out for the year) left the game. You saw the Steelers steal a win they arguably shouldn’t have.
I saw a team fighting against all odds and overcoming adversity. I saw a young quarterback take yet another step maturing into the unquestioned leader of his team. I saw the arguably worst starter on the team leave the game and an instant upgrade take his place. I saw the best core of linebackers in the NFL dominate the Ravens, minus 2/3 the front 3 to do their dirty work.
I saw a very good team win last night. In a couple months, you’ll all see too.

As a Steeler fan, I am going to be honest and say the Steelers “won.” However, there are issues at offense. SERIOUS issues. This is an offense that seems to take it’s sweet time to get going. They have to get going FASTER. Ben can yell and scream at his offense all he wants but they got to do it faster. He has to throw the ball away. I could not blame Jaws for praising Flacco. He did a great job. I credit the Steelers victory to the defense. The defense won that game. They kept us in that game. Special teams did their job. Now with Mendenhall who now has plenty of time to text gone and Simmons gone and who knows when Parker will return, there will be MORE pressure on Ben and the guys on offense. The play calling was predictable as all hell. Here comes Jacksonville and that won’t be easy.
