At a time when the Cincinnati Bengals seemed to be the favorite to land 2005 NFL MVP Shaun Alexander, a native of nearby Florence, Kentucky, the Bengals threw the league a curveball on Tuesday, signing tailback Cedric Benson.
The team has announced via a press release the addition of Benson. He’ll replace DeDe Dorsey, who has been placed on injured reserve.
Benson was the fourth overall pick in the 2005 draft. The Bears dumped him after a lackluster 2007 season as the clear-cut starter — and after two alcohol-related arrests in less than a month. Though a grand jury opted last week not to indict Benson on any of the pending charges, the decision of the Bengals to add a player with a troubled past will only reinforce the team’s standing as a franchise that simply doesn’t care about the perception that more than a few of its players are turds.
Hey, but at least those talented-but-flawed players are helping the Bengals win lots of football games.

Shocked to hear that the Bungles would sign someone with a questionable history of run-ins with law enforcement. Thats really going against the grain for them.

usually I get mad when i read the comments on Bengals threads. but this time I’m awaiting them. I am a die hard fan, and I’m pretty upset with how things have been going. Saying we wont sign Chris henry, then signing him. Alexander is out there, but no we sign a guy who cant keep his nose clean. Why? We are 0-4 and it cant get any worse? oh wait it can lets sign more troubled players. I’m suprised we arent visiting Maurice Clarett or Michael Vick in prison.

I hope they only signed him to one year deal! They can blow he him out with Marvin Lewis when he get terminatied at season end. Benson had season ending surgey last year with a screws and plates installed i n his right leg and ther we those whipsers in league circles that his career was in jeopardy anyway! Turd is a turd! This is Benson last chance anyway!!

So the cops should be believed, not the grand jury? Give me a break. Perhaps Benson was arrested unjustly. I mean isn’t that even remotely possible?
Complain about this move by the Bungles because the guy SUCKS, not because of “run-in’s” with the law that at least in a grand jury’s eyes had no merit.

Benson’s awful. With all that mileage from UT, he no longer has the speed to compete in the NFL. He simply stayed to long in Chitown because Angelo couldn’t admit to drafting yet another first round bust.
