As part of an all-out Terrell Owens bash session on ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown, Cowboys legend Emmitt Smith said that receiver T.O. needs to be quiet.
In the studio, Tom Jackson, Mike Ditka, Cris Carter, and Keyshawn Johnson each made excellent points regarding the potential consequences of Owens’ decision to piss and moan about not getting the ball more than he did during Sunday’s 26-24 loss to the Redskins.
“We know the ending,” Jackson said of Owens’ past habit of calling out his quarterbacks. Jeff Garcia experienced it in San Fran, and Donovan McNabb got some of it in Philly. So despite T.O.’s January crocodile tears for Tony Romo, a November knife in the back could be coming.
The panel also seemed to agree that someone needs to intervene in order to avert disaster — and that the someone is owner Jerry Jones.

Keyshawn definitely knows what it’s like to piss and moan his way out of a city. He did it twice, with the Jets and Bucs.

I’m a pretty big T.O. fan, but if I were Jerry Jones (or Tony Romo, optimally) I would nip this in the bud right now. T.O. can be a great teammate or a terrible teammate, and this is how it starts with him. A stern talking-to and a steady dose of passes his way next week should hopefully calm him down.

I don’t see this turning into anything big in terms of a team distraction. Unless, Dallas were to spiral downhill in a hurry and drop another game or two, which isn’t gonna happen, there really won’t be much T.O. can do to distract them.

Third year in a row! Florio if I had a dollar for every “TO Implosion Coming?” type article you’ve written I could retire a very rich man.
But you sure know how to get the clicks, I’ll give you that. But why did you skip October and jump to November?

By the way, its day 4293 since the Cowboys won a playoff game.

That’s indeed good advice, but you make the mistake of assuming Owens is a rational person. I fear this is what it would sound like to TO:
“Blah blah blah blah blah and a steady dose of passes his way next week blah blah blah blah blah.”

Is TO just dumb? I just perused the play by play from yesterday and TO was targeted or given the ball 20! of the 59 offensive snaps for Dallas. A WR who is targeted 1/3 of the time still has the gall to say he doesn’t get it enough? They are 3-0 when they were feeding it to Barber and Romo was spreading it around. Now they try ridiculously hard to get him the ball, and lose. He still complains saying he doesn’t get it enough. Seems to me that he was targeted way too much yesterday, at least at the expense of the Cowboys’ success.
If anyone should be complaining, it should be Marion Barber….

Maybe T.O. should have been a quarterback so he could touch the ball every play. Maybe he will follow another Dallas reciever and run with scissors.

Give him a break for once. Romo played like a rookie last night - it was embarrassing. Anyone who faults T.O. for passion is just an idiot. Granted, he needs to stfu, but seriously, if you had asked me today how I felt about that game last night, I would have said Romo needs to step up and stop trying to be such a ’stud’. Pay attention to football Romo and keep distributing that ball all over the field. Believe it or not, I think they use T.O. to bail them out of tough situations and when he can’t catch the ball because of double teaming, it’s the same old “T.O. being T.O. - start the whining”.
Steeler fan here… but since the family is also Dallas fans born and bred, we pay attention to both teams. T.O. is and has been a HUGE asset to Dallas. Now Dallas should treat him like the star he is.

But for the most part, I just wanted to use that line about the press conference. I think T.O. should be a much better teammate, but I think he gets a little bit of an unfair reputation. Most (not all) of his outbursts come from being competitive, and you never hear about him getting arrested, using the juice, etc. He still could be nicer to Garcia and McNabb, though.
