RICE JERSEY RETIREMENT COMING

When mentioning the other day that the 49ers will be retiring the jersey of Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young, we mentioned that the Niners have not, for reasons neither known nor apparent, retired the jersey of receiver Jerry Rice, one of the best players at any position of all time. Per Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee, a retirement of Rice’s jersey is in the works: “A ceremony is coming, [Jed] York said. For now, he and the 49ers want to focus their attention on Young, whose jersey will be retired on Oct. 5. After that, they’ll get in touch with Rice and begin nailing down a date.” Ten other members of the 49ers have had their jerseys retired. And, no, Jim Druckenmiller isn’t one of them.
