Though the specifics of the conclusion of Matt Millen’s employment in Detroit aren’t yet known, Tom Kowalski of Mlive.com suggests that Millen’s full take could be $50 million.
He made $5 million per year on his first five-year contract, and presumably made at least that much on his five-year extension.
At one point, Millen publicly said he wouldn’t accept a buyout if/when he is fired. Most contracts of this nature require ongoing payments to be made, reduced only by money earned in similar employment with another NFL team.

Holy crap I need his agent. I could do at least as bad a job as he did for half that.

Wow. A perfect explanation as to why Ford and our country are where they are.

Millen should be forced to pay the Lions 50 million for what he’s done to that team. He’s set them back another decade.

Worst….GM….Ever.
The FBI should be looking into this. What leverage did Millen have to get such a deal to begin with?
Now we know why Barry Sanders retired with at least 2 more football seasons left in his body.

“Most contracts of this nature require ongoing payments to be made, reduced only by money earned in similar employment with another NFL team.”
Well, the Lions can rest easy knowing that he should have no problem landing employment with another NFL franchise…..they’ll save about $8 for every hour he spends sweeping up peanut shells.

Put any five of us to work
for a million a piece per year.
Could we do worse..?
Multi-Tasking
would never be a problem.

the fords should sell their shares of ford and the lions before their worth is nothing. Inner breeding I suppose leads to this. Kind of like the bushes and cheneys.

Reports out of Detroit are actually that Millen told the team to “keep their money” for the rest of the contract.

This is utterly shocking information. Why this guy received a contract extension after the initial disastrous tenure is beyond me. I am pretty sure if you threw darts at a draft board the darts would outperform Millen and his draft choices.
Millen belong right up there with the great charlatans of our time like Ken Lay of Enron, Frank Raines of Fannie Mae and Rigas from Adelphia.
Only in America!

Players whose health is at risk every day could be cut the day after signing a contract, but the ‘executive’ who could (and did) run the entire ship aground without the risk of injury, save the occasional papercut, will get a eight-figure parachute!? Ridiculous

Man, if there was only a way to get this $50mil to go towards this BS bank bail-out that Congress is getting ready to pass.
Sure, $50mil is barely a pimple on $1tril’s ass, but it’s a matter of principle…

Can you say corporate “golden parachute”? Somehow the American Dream and capitalism strayed off the path. Now it’s gonna cost us $700 billion because of things just like this.

There is no reason to slam the Ford Family, especially the owner Mr. Ford. He treated Wayne Fontes with dignity and he will treat Matt Millen the same. Seriously, we should be so lucky as to be in the same room with the Mr. Ford. He did not hurt you so lighten up on him. The team needs a GM with a plan to keep Marinelli as a Defensive Coordinator and move on from there. Any names to offer as GM’s? Coaches?

Miraculous! Only in America could a man who has made so little progress and caused so much damage garner so much money.
The incredible thing is that the only people he was fooling are those who signed his paycheck. The fans of the Lions and the NFL in general all knew he was inept. Unbelievable!
