As Rams coach Scott Linehan sees his football life flashing before his eyes, he’s doing the one thing that any coach can do to try to save his butt.
He’s changing quarterbacks.
Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the Rams have benched Marc Bulger, and that he’ll be replaced by Trent Green.
Last year, the Rams made the same move at a time when Bulger was nursing broken ribs. This time around, Bulger is healthy.
Ironically, the guy who replaced Bulger last year was Gus Frerotte, who last week became the starter in Minnesota after Tarvaris Jackson was benched.
It’s a far bigger deal in St. Louis, where Bulger received a six-year, $65 million deal in 2007 after missing a day or so of training camp. Roughly 14 months later, Bulger has been yanked from the lineup.
The move is surprising but not shocking. Linehan can’t worry about whether the Rams get a return on their investment in Bulger; Linehan needs to win games or he’ll be gone.
Meanwhile, Green has regained the gig that he had in 1999, until a preseason hit to the knee from Rodney Harrison opened the door for the ascension of Kurt Warner and the rest of the Greatest Showoffs on Turf.

“Greatest Showoffs”??? Not sure what you’re getting at here Florio. But Torry Holt, Isaac Bruce, Kurt Warner, Marshall Faulk were all pretty decent guys and far from “showoffs” like TO, Ocho Stinko or any of the other “Me First” type players.
Perhaps you should stick to football reporting and leave the comedy to the professionals.

Bulger isn’t the problem. Benching him won’t help. Bulger has shown that he is a very good QB if you give him time and people to catch the ball. Stephen Jackson can’t run, and Bulger can’t stay off his ass. I think that points to O-Line.

wow.
Bulger is a good QB. the problem isn’t Bulger, its all over the rest of the team, and very specifically the coaching. I actually feel for Bulger in this case, the dude can only do so much.

Green has a lot of experience working in the Al Sanders offence and therefore he is a better choice for QB….that is until he gets whacked in the head again.

So should I bench steven jax in my fantasy league because the defense can tee off on the run, or keep him. Since his carries should go up? Hmmm…

Let me get this straight….Linehan is going to put a guy with a history of concussions, someone whose return to football prompted pleas from various people for him to reconsider that decision, behind an offensive line that has surrendered 11 sacks in 3 games, and a game coming up against the Bills with the Redskins and Cowboys to follow…..how many blows to the head did Linehan receive before making this ingenius decision?
I know Scott, why don’t you save opposing team’s the trouble and hit Green over the head with a bat before Sunday.

THEY WILL GET A DEAD CAT BOUNCE AND LOSE BY ONLY 22 POINTS PER GAME TILL GREEN GOES DOWN.
just like detroit… it is easier to bench one guy than 11 or an hc + 2 coordinators.

Hutch I don’t think anyone has watched a Rams game this year not even their fans, however this is a smart move and the Rams have weapons in their offense that should and need to be utilized maybe Bulger’s time has passed him and he’s seen his best years, if that’s the case the Rams should look into recovering some of that money they paid Bulger because no one can justify having a guy on the bench who makes 11 million a year

I’d be surprised if Trent Green doesn’t play well. Their offense under Al Saunders is extremely complicated and he knows it inside and out. Because of that fact, he will be able to do something Bulger can’t–make the players around him better. A perfect example of this is Todd Collins play from last year. Once Jason Campbell was injured and Todd took over, the Redskins offense went into high gear and they were a much more dangerous team.
Of course, one hit to the ol’ noggin and none of this matters…
