Pot, meet kettle: Patriots safety Rodney Harrison is criticizing Dolphins running back Ricky Williams for what Harrison says was a dirty play Sunday.
On the first play of the fourth quarter, Ronnie Brown scored on a 62-yards run. Running downfield trailing the play, Williams dove at the legs of Patriots linebacker Mike Vrabel. After the play, Vrabel retaliated with a shot at Williams, and they were both flagged with personal fouls.
Harrison was asked after the game if he thought it was a dirty play on Williams’ part, and he answered, “Of course it was. Of course it was. There’s no place in the game for that.”
Some would argue that there’s no place in the game for a lot of what Harrison does. In July a poll of NFL coaches revealed that they overwhelmingly believe Harrison is the dirtiest player in the league.
For Williams’ part, he said, “A lot of defensive guys don’t like it when you go at their legs. I can understand that. … If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn’t have done it because I can understand why he was upset. I was caught up in the play and just trying to help [Brown]. I wasn’t trying to hurt anybody.”

Well if there is a current player expert on Dirty Play it has to be Rodney. Good source IMHO.

Harrison is nothing but a crybaby. He’s a stinking dirty player and I wish Ricky Williams would’ve busted Harrison’s leg when he blocked him.

Is it possible for a member of the Patriots to get hit and not call it a dirty play? Yeah, it’s too bad that you lost your best player, but these things happen when you play a contact sport. Time to quit crying and move on. Everyone else has.

I thought it was a block that really didn’t have to be made. Unless of course Brown pulled a DeSean Jackson and dropped the ball before crossing the goal line.

that was a cheap block. vrabel was running at least 8-10 yards behind ronnie brown. no 260 linebacker can catch up to ronnie when he has that kind of lead. that play should have been called back since the block was before he scored. the retaliation was after.

I am quite sure that Williams personal foul was not for the block. I watched the game and the block occured somewhat away from the play, but clearly 20 yards before Brown scored. If the foul was for the block, the TD would not have counted.
Both players got personal fouls for the shoving they did after the block. This is why the TD still counted.

Should Rodney Harrison really be allowed to speak on issues such as “What is dirty?” and “Fairness”? I think not.
It was not the cleanest of plays, but it was legal.

I hate to be “that guy” but I think there is a factual error here.
Ricky Williams was NOT flagged for the block. The penalties on the play were both dead ball personal fouls. First one was on Vrabel for the retaliation for the block and the second one was on Williams for a retaliation of the retaliation. Watch the replay and how the officials called it.
It may seem trivial but I think it makes a difference if Ricky was flagged for the block or for a different action.
As for my thoughts, it wasn’t dirty but it was unnecessary. Harrison is the last person who should be complaining about dirty plays though. Here’s a thought, why not tackle Ronnie Brown for once?

Rodney Harrison constantly has the smug switch cranked up to 10. I can’t stand hearing him speak, he’s impossibly arrogant. A little humbleness would go a long way to get rid of that dirty reputation of his.

Just to clarify, the flag on Ricky wasn’t for a block during the play, it was for a personal foul after the play. I’ve re-worded that sentence.

Honestly, what kind of logic is it to say that Rodney Harrison shouldn’t be criticizing people for dirty hits. A cheap hit is a cheap hit. Since everyone here is so hyped on integrity of the game how about applying it to everyone for a change.
