Titans coach Jeff Fisher says that he wants to give quarterback Vince Young the chance to learn the NFL game that Young never got during his rookie year.

And, to make that happen, Fisher is considering having Young watch the game from the coaches’ box, not from the sideline.

Really?  That’s the reason?  Helping him learn the game?  No young quarterback, to our knowledge, has ever watched the game from the coaches’ box in order to learn the ropes.  The best place for a young quarterback to get ready is on the sidelines, where the interactions between the starter and his teammates, and between the starter and the coaches, can be observed.

We think that, in this case, moving Young off the sidelines would be aimed at protecting Young from any of the yay-hoos who might try to harass him from the stands.

The Titans face the Texans at home on Sunday, and it was the Titans’ home crowd whose boos of Young sparked a chain of events that ended with a Monday night APB – and a police negotiator on standby.  Surely, Fisher doesn’t want to expose Young to anyone in the seats near the team bench who might be inclined to try to press the softened buttons of a player who might be perceived as a rich, whiny quitter.

Indeed, Fisher said on Wednesday during The Dan Patrick Show that Kerry Collins would be the starter even if Vince Young were healthy.  But Fisher also claimed that Young didn’t decline to re-enter the Week One game against throwing an interception, and that Young didn’t ask out of the team’s playoff loss in January.
