Nearly two years ago, Raiders owner Al Davis described Adam Schefter of NFLN as a “false rumor mongerer” when he reported that coach Art Shell was slated to be fired. (And, of course, Shell was later fired.)
We wonder what Davis thinks of Schefter now, given that Schefter has contradicted rampant reports of coach Lane Kiffin’s demise.
Per Schefter, Kiffin won’t be fired this week.
It doesn’t mean that Kiffin will be the head coach at the end of the season, or even at the end of the month. For now, though, he’ll stay on the job.

i’d like to nominate the first comment as worst comment of the year
not out of Florio love, but because the comment made no sense and it is stupid
besides that, this Kiffin thing is ridiculous, if he loses next week is going to be fired? Its really sad to say, but it almost seems the only way the Raiders will turn the corner is when Al is gone.

Here’s the thing… it doesn’t matter if Kiffin is “safe for now”. What’s happening is not productive to winning football games. That’s what matters. Al’s commitment is to his self and his rediculously outdated ideals and dillusions of loyalty (which is an abbarition in today’s NFL), not to execellence. Its certainly not to winning at all costs.
So riddle me this… did winning in KC create a “stay of execution”? If so, that’s more proof has no idea how to appropriately operate for long term success. If he cared about winning and thought Kiffin was the problem, then he should get rid of him no matter the outcome of any given game… to me, this proves Al’s obession is with his own short term will, not with winning…So, his long term goals will never be achieved. He will not win because of himself and his pride and his selfish obession with being all powerful.
Kiffin will kick the Raider’s asses upon his release and Al will be another year older and another year less capable of making any sense…if that is possible. I want to vomit.

Sorry, I’m not done here. Florio, you know how I know you’re apart of the real media now? Because you f-ck up stories just like they do.
You jump on the media bandwagon that Tim Kawakami started as speculation in the San Jose Mercury News. Not Nancy Gay who played the role as opportunist. So, when you’re wrong about Kiffin wasn’t fired last night, you jump on the real media bandwagon again by saying his job is safe…..”for now.” Oh really? Wow, does that even qualify as a “rumor” if everyone and even Florio Jr know this already?
Of course, your attempt to backtrack is pretty convenient you use an example of Al Davis calling Schefter a rumor monger. Are you sure you weren’t referring to Nancy Gay?
Since you brought it up, I’ll post Nancy Gay’s infamous summer of Fale Rumor Mongering she contributed to(but not limited to): “The Raiders cannot afford to sign a number 1 pick, The Raiders cannot keep th 4th pick of the draft because of the Hall trade, Kiffin will not coach the Raiders in 2008, Al Davis gave Kiffin a letter of resignation and asked him to sign it, Ryan has been fired, Ryan has been hired by the Jets as a D coordinator, Ryan walked into Davis’ office to say goodbye and thank you after he was fired, Kiffin did not want to draft Russell, Kiffin did not want to draft McFadden, Russell is 300 lbs, Kiffin had nothing to do with hiring coach Lofton, Kiffin has been stripped of his duties, Kiffin was not involved with the draft, D Hall never got to meet with Kiffin during the trade talks”… and I could go on for days.
The false rumor mongering about Jamarcus Russell weighing 300lbs was started by Tim Kawakami and repeated by Ray Fatto and Nancy Gay.
So there you have it.
As a Raider, I’m not saying they don’t have problems. That would be like you stating the obvious that Kiffin will be fired. What I’m saying is Tim Kawakami, Ray Fatto and Nancy Gay are blood-sucking opportunist leaches that profit and sensationalize any news item regarding Al Davis.
Wake up.

Al values loyalty, which is reflected by the significant number of Raiders still in the organization today.
More importantly, the Raiders operate different than other clubs. AL has had much success and is uniquely qualified to be coach, owner and GM, while Kiffin is an inexperienced, unproven coach who’s biggest asset is being chosen by Al , as a potential good coach. Kiffin has barely won 27% of his 18 games. There are much smarter, more experienced people who spend their entire careers chasing the opportunity to be a head coach. He needs to shut his mouth and earn his stripes. He has done nothing. Al has forgotten more than Kiffin knows. Al had a SuperBowl win, before Kiffin floated around in his daddy’s balls.
Al expects and demands secrecy. There’s stuff you don’t talk about in front of the media. Kiffin is talking too much and few clubs value talk more than action. Kiffin’s recent remarks are borderline betrayal. It’s insulting to hear Kiffin take subtle shots at the Raider organization.
Al is pissed. The Raiders don’t normally let their coaches talk to the media like Ryan did.
It’s too bad this got ugly, because is better to strive to resolve NOT dissolve.. …

Wingnut, your screen name and your first post say enough but no hard feelings man.
badboyberto, “uniquely qualified to be coach, owner and GM”…get the f outta the kool-aid dude. Al is now may-be uniguely qualified to finger paint in a nursin home. That’s about it.
I am a Raider fan, and once upon a time before Al stepped on his d*ck 9000 times, I was an Al davis fan…now he’s a joke, as are the raiders I have loved for 30 years. Reality is sometimes an unpleasant jolt, but it is better than dillusion.

Al Davis knows the key to running a successful enterprise is to micromanage and second guess your staff, and to fire them if they don’t produce immediate success. Because patience and dedication have never led to anything worthwhile.

Oh yeah… berto, Ryan’s rant (or show of “loyalty” as you may call it) proved nothing other that he is a trained chimp that can barely communicate a cohesive thought… this is Al’s “boy”? This is how we will go forward??? Well, then, my questioning of Al’s Judgment seems even more legit.

I feel really bad for Lane. He’s easily the best coach they’ve had since Gruden. That’s just a rough situation to be thrown into in Oakland. I hope he gets another shot with another team willing to give the head coach a say with team matters.
On the plus side, Detroit, Minnesota, San Francisco, St. Louis, Cleveland, Cincinnati, San Diego, and Kansas City could all be looking for head coaches next year.

trikee
Thank you, your post about Nancy Gay, Tim Kawakami and others was spot on.
It´s actually quite funny that those guys have lost all credibility by going out of their way to try and discredit Al Davis, truth be damned.
They just don´t get it, it´s ok for Al Davis to be an a-hole with them, he owes them nothing, but it´s a whole different issue for a JOURNALIST to let personal feelings get in the way of their integrity.
For that reaosn alone it´s evident that Davis owns them and they don´t even know it.
Here´s another Nancy Gay report, complte with “sources”, that you maye have forgotten, oldie but goodie from Kiffin´s 1st training camp before last season:
“Numerous NFL sources have suggested Kiffin, 32, wants to rid the team of players who are close to his age or older.
Kiffin, sources say, doesn’t want players with influence who might threaten his authority.
So team leaders such as — yes, believe it — defensive tackle Warren Sapp, 34, are in big trouble. Even if Sapp, who admirably dropped 49 pounds in six months, comes to camp looking like a Pro Bowler, he’s probably wasting his time.”

whatever… I’m so f-cking sick of this bullsh-t with Davis firing good coaches because they actually have a sack, while coddling the coaches who bend over forwards and take it in the you know what just to stay in his good graces. I’ve said it several times…. dump Al, dump Ryan, keep Kiff, get big Kiff, and MOST IMPORTANTLY get Bruce Allen back- personnel decisions have been in a free fall since him and Lombardi left.
something else I’ve noticed though- the Raiders are still the most-hated team in the NFL even when they suck. Look how many comments Raiders-related articles get vs. Niners or even Chargers.
