KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh reports that billionaire Stanley Druckenmiller has issued a deadline to the brothers of Dan Rooney regarding Druckenmiller’s offer to buy their interest in the team.
The deadline is Friday, September 19.
Until then, Druckenmiller’s offer to pay the four brothers $800 million in cash (tens and twenties?) will be on the table.
Each of the five sons of Art Rooney own 16 percent of the team. If Druckenmiller buys out four of them, he’ll own 64 percent of the team, and thus will acquire controlling interest.
The problem is that the Rooneys have delayed accepting the offer as Dan and his son, Art II, have tried to put together a package that equals or exceed the Druckenmiller deal.
Dan Rooney, per KDKA, has made three offers to his brothers, and he is expected to make a fourth.
Another possibility is for the Rooney brothers to dump any gambling interests that violate league rules and then sell their interest in a few years, when the value of the franchise will be even higher.
If so, they might have to do it by finding a buyer other than Druckenmiller. And there simply aren’t many Pittsburgh guys with that kind of jack.
Meanwhile, the continued failure of the league to impose a deadline on the Rooneys for solving the problem will do little to alter the perception in some league circles that the Rooneys are getting special treatment. The belief is that many other franchises would have been given an immediate order from the NFL to get the problem solved. The clear perception (and reality) in this case is that the league is trying its best to keep the franchise ultimately in the hands of Dan Rooney.

Keep the franchise in the hands of the guy that allowed two gigantic mechanized ketchup bottles to be constructed in their stadium?
Yeah, come on with the 1 ratings, homers. Rooney’s a joke of a broke bloke.

Florio…dude, just wipe the egg from your face and get your foot out of your mouth and PLEASE quit the Steeler bashing just because they are presently exceeding your expectations thus far in this early 2008 season.

Dan Rooney and his father did a lot to make the NFL what it is. Between Dan, Wellington Mara and Lamar Hunt, they made the NFL what it is today. Dan Rooney and his family have earned a little leniency from the rest of the league. No one who loves the NFL should want to see the Rooney family lose their team.

Dan Rooney also got caught cheating his business partners, so let’s dispense with the niceties and deal with the realities of the modern NFL.

I think the league is learning from its mistakes .Probably still feel guilty that Kent Cookes son lost his dads team . No one under 5 feet should own an nfl team .Can someone get Dan Syner some lifts ? Perhaps some platforms ?

You must have balls the size of my monitor to call someone else a homer. Run along now, someone somewhere is saying Quincy Carter doesn’t belong in the NFL.

Is it that bad to Steelers fans that some billionaire Steelers fan is going to buy the team? He isn’t getting the team for free. The Rooney’s are going to be given hundreds of millions of dollars - and can buy season tickets forever! They’ll probably get a free skybox out of the deal. I mean what is the new owner going to do? Spend lots of money to make the team better? Is this a bad thing?

Pittsburghers with jack? Teresa Heinz Kerry, Steeler owner? Can’t do worse than the Fords, Browns, and Bidwells I guess.
The franchise is profitable, the Rooney brothers wont have a problem finding a buyer. Druckenmiller ploy is a bluff anyway. He’ll be back.

Hey, where’s the “L.A. Steelers” moron crowd today? Funny not a peep anymore from those stupid shim idiots. Sorry clowns, team’s not going anywhere — like there ever was even a micro chance of that happening.
Now, “L.A. Cowboys” that’s a whole different story.
